Took full advantage of an ease in the weights and an excellent ride by Ryan Moore to scoot home by 1½L in a similar 7f contest at Ascot seven days ago. Major player under a 6lb penalty.
AW specialist who was returning to action for the first time since May when finishing just over 5L fifth to Shady McCoy at Ascot last week.
A two time winner over this trip, but not since August 2015 when with Roger Varian (sold for 52,000 gns), but back recently from a year off and gamely held by Inexes, by a neck, at Pontefract latest (6f heavy).
Below his best form in recent starts, but beginning to slide in the weights. That said, weakened quickly from 2f out when last of eight to Muntadab at Haydock (7f soft) in early September.
Found wanting on his previous visits to York during the summer, but has slipped in the weights since then and knocking on the door lately in testing conditions. Not discounted on his September third to Dan Troop at Chester (7f class 3, heavy).
Picked up for 32,000 gns in October 2016, and took a while to make his mark before winning at Redcar in June (7f good to firm). On the same mark, and ran a solid race at Doncaster in August. Wears first time cheek-pieces.
Beat Areen Heart by ½L from this mark at Ripon in June (1m soft), but has steadily lost his way since and finished last of ten to Dan Troop at Haydock latest.
In winning form earlier in the year (Catterick and Musselburgh) and showed plenty off this mark at Chester on his penultimate start when beaten 1½L by Explain (7f heavy). However, this hooded gelding is a shade in and out and was poor latest.
Stablemate of Luis Vaz De Torres and holds claims at his best despite his most recent successes coming over 6f, including at Ayr in late July. Blew his chance at the start at Pontefract latest and wouldn't want a repeat of that trick today.
Yet to win beyond 6f and out of form since scoring at Doncaster in May (beat Jaywalker by ½L). Requires a career best effort to prevail from his current mark.
Course winner in late July (6f good), but stays 7f and is just 2lb higher now. That form reads well, but he's struggled a little lately and missed the start when finishing sixth (Mujassam second) to Inexes at Pontefract last month (6f heavy).
Campaigned mainly on Tapeta at Newcastle (6f winner), but is an unexposed sort in handicaps who has been off the track since March. An interesting jockey booked to ride, and the market could prove informative.
In rude health and arrives penalised seeking a hat-trick after comfortably disposing of 12 rivals at Catterick on Tuesday (6f good to soft). This is tougher and whilst he's yet to win over 7f, he was third over C&D (to Dark Intention) last month.
Left previous trainer David Loughnane after winning at Lingfield in April (1m, Polytrack), and hasn't really sparkled for this trainer just yet. Easing in the weights, but others preferred.
Finished 2¼L behind the third placed horse Short Work when fourth to Dark Intention over C&D last month, and had ran well prior to that when beaten a neck at Catterick. An infrequent winner, but in good shape, so enters the equation.
Talented, but also quirky and is climbing back up the weights. Split a couple of today's rivals (Mujassam and Lexington Times) when fourth to Inexes at Pontefract latest (6f heavy). Vulnerable over this trip.
A 5L winner for Brian Ellison at Pontefract in August (1m soft), but moved on swiftly between starts last month. Finished third on stable debut at Pontefract latest, but truthfully looks plenty high enough in the weights off his current mark.
Dispatched a few of these with aplomb when winning over C&D on her penultimate start last month, including the progressive Short Work (third) and Lagenda (fourth). Best to ignore her subsequent start (heavy), so has claims from a 6lb higher mark.
Not won this year despite a promising return at Redcar in April (1m good), but has only dropped 4lb in the weights since then despite racing a further seven times. Well behind Instant Attraction at Chester latest (heavy) and more needed.

Forecasts
Shady Mccoy (5/1), Short Work (5/1), Qeyaadah (11/2), Dark Intention (8/1), Johnny Cavagin (8/1), Twin Appeal (10/1), Lagenda (10/1), Lexington Times (14/1), Mujassam (14/1), Instant Attraction (16/1), Custard The Dragon (16/1), Glorious Politics (20/1), Echo Of Lightning (25/1), The Commendatore (25/1), Luis Vaz De Torres (25/1), Kenny The Captain (25/1), Shouranour (33/1), Heir To A Throne (33/1), Khelman (33/1), Bouclier (50/1)
An impossible to solve finale on a challenging seven race card for punters, with all sorts of interwoven form-lines set up to muddy the waters. Dark Intention scored over C&D last month, beating the subsequently progressive Tuesday Catterick winner Short Work (third) and Lagenda (fourth), and that represents an obvious starting point. Similarly, Mujassam was a runner up over 6f at Pontefract last month (heavy) and probably holds Kenny The Captain (fourth) and Lexington Times (sixth) if as effective over this longer trip on just his third start in the past 12 to 13 months. Instant Attraction is better weighted than in mid summer and should be on the premises, but we'll opt to keep it simple and row in with last week's emphatic Ascot scorer SHADY MCCOY under a 6lb penalty. He had the returning Custard The Dragon 5+L back in fifth, and there was a stack to like about the way he shot clear after navigating his way round the field (outer) under Ryan Moore, and he's taken to notch a quick seven day double.
- Shady Mccoy
- Instant Attraction
- Dark Intention
