Was runner-up over C&D (good) in July from 4lb lower and then won on heavy at Hamilton (1m1f) last month from 5lb lower. Last of 11 and beaten 9½L when put up to today's mark over C&D last week, but missed the break there and has claims again.

Has been in decent form before coming good over 7f at Catterick (good to soft) last month. Up 5lb for that and has never won from this high, nor over this far, so has a bit to do to follow up.

Now fully 29lb below his last winning mark from three years ago. Has threatened to halt the slide now and again, including last time when a ½L runner-up over C&D (soft). From the same mark today he can't be ruled out.

His best of three efforts in maidens was on his Ripon debut (1m, good). Has since run twice on the Tapeta at Newcastle over 5f and been blown away. Initial handicap mark looks fair based on his first run and return to this trip is positive.

Loves it here, having won three times over 7f at the track, including on both heavy and soft. Scored over 1m½f at Hamilton in August from 2lb lower and was beaten just 1½L over C&D last time from today's mark. Claims.

Put together back-to-back wins over 7f at Catterick and Leicester in July, the latter on soft ground. Has remained competitive from this mark in two of his last three starts, including over C&D (soft) last time and again has claims.

All three of his turf wins have been on good to soft, so any drying of conditions would be a help, as he has never been as effective on soft. Comes here in form after a 7f Musselburgh win, though a 6lb penalty makes this tough.

Was runner-up in a 6f Newcastle (AW) maiden in February, but has failed to go on from that. Handicapper beginning to give her a chance, but she still has to prove her capabilities on turf, over this trip and on soft ground.

Sole win came in a 6f Hamilton maiden (soft) over two years ago, following which the handicapper has been in almost complete control. Now a stone lower than where he recommenced from this season, but still not easy to fancy on recent efforts.

Less exposed than many of these after just eight starts and encouraging that she has twice made the frame on soft ground, the more recent being last time out at Pontefract (1m). A 2lb drop gives her claims today if she can reproduce that last run.

Didn't look the best treated of runners prior to her handicap debut at Catterick in July and underlined that by finishing last, beaten nearly 8L. A 4lb drop should help, but she will also need some improvement to figure.

Has been on the slide for well over a year now. Inconsistent and even on his good days he has still not threatened to trouble the principals. 1lb out of the handicap and very hard to recommend him.

Best effort in three starts in maiden company was first up at Ripon (1m1f, good) in May, though all three have left plenty to work on. Now goes handicapping from a base rating and on the softest ground he has encountered. Probably best watched.

A very moderate 13-race maiden, who made the frame just once so far at Musselburgh (1m1f, good to firm) in July. Has not looked at home on soft ground yet and looks one to watch for the time being.

Forecasts

Green Howard (10/3), Someone Exciting (5/1), Carlovian (11/2), Orientelle (8/1), Coral Princess (10/1), Billy Bond (10/1), Niqnaaqpaadiwaaq (10/1), Rioja Day (10/1), Let Right Be Done (18/1), The King's Steed (25/1), Magical Molly Joe (33/1), Arabela Dawn (50/1), Delegation (50/1), Kaylen's Mischief (66/1)

Verdict

Another poor heat and the tentative selection is ORIENTELLE, who is less exposed that plenty of her opponents, handles cut and goes into this after a handy 2lb drop. Carlovian and Rioja Day are others with claims, while a win for either Green Howard or topweight Billy Bond would not surprise.
  1. Orientelle
  2. Carlovian
  3. Rioja Day
