Completed a hat-trick earlier in the summer and has been beaten by two very useful performers the last twice; major claims back down in a Class 3 if able to overcome a career-high mark.

Indian Chief6
Age: 7|  Weight: 9-0| J: D Tudhope| T: Rebecca Bastiman| OR:  84| BF| CD
11/2
C&D winner who clearly wasn't at his best last time but may have found conditions too testing (soft ground is fine). Was having a consistent season prior to that and holds claims if bouncing back.

Horse silk
Compton Mill3
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-12| J: P J McDonald| T: H Morrison| OR:  82| D
5/1
Handles soft ground well and isn't too much higher in the weights than at the time of his last victory, and would be benefited by a strong pace which he's likely to get here.

Tomahawk Kid51
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-7| J: S De Sousa| T: Ian Williams| OR:  77| C

Not at his best last year but his one promising run of the season came with this top jockey on board. Still likely to find this too tough.

Would be thereabouts in a race such as this on his best form, but hasn't been given much help by the handicapper following some questionable recent efforts, and others hold more convincing claims.

Miningrocksb116
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-2| J: P Mathers| T: D Carroll| OR:  72| CD

Not at his best recently but in good form earlier in the summer off a lower mark; now only 1lb above his most recent winning rating and first time blinkers may help aid his concentration.

Bonnie Arlene13
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-1| J: F Norton| T: C & M Johnston| OR:  75| D

Arrives here in fairly good form and it looks like this will be her trip going forward, but she doesn't seem fully effective on soft ground, which is a concern.

Age: 7|  Weight: 8-0| J: A Mullen| T: R C Guest| OR:  68| CD
25/1
C&D winner who last won at Beverley in August and handles soft ground. Handicap mark is okay, but needs a return to his best form in first time cheek pieces.

Harmoniseh19
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-0| J: David Egan(3)| T: M R Channon| OR:  71

Up in trip with a hood applied here having lost her way slightly over shorter trips following a promising start to the season. Needs to prove she stays this far but not ruled out if she does.

Parolet16
Age: 5|  Weight: 8-0| J: Rachel Richardson(3)| T: T D Easterby| OR:  67| CD
12/1
C&D winner who was slightly disappointing last time out but generally in good form prior to that on the Flat. Probably doesn't want it too soft but would be thereabouts on her best form.

Jack Of Diamonds25
Age: 8|  Weight: 8-0| J: J Quinn| T: R A Teal| OR:  67

Has run into some for over shorter trips recently, but all his victories have come over shorter than this, so he needs to prove he can be as effective over this far.

Duck Egg Bluep32
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-0| J: J P Sullivan| T: P Holmes| OR:  70

Yet to win as a three-year-old but got her head in front twice last year and has gone close on a few occasions since. The fact her best runs have all come over shorter is a mild concern.

The Gay Cavaliert6
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-0| J: Cam Hardie| T: J Ryan| OR:  66| D

On a long enough losing run at this stage and seems held by the handicapper on the basis of his recent performances.

Lord Franklinp5
Age: 8|  Weight: 8-0| J: D Fentiman| T: E J Alston| OR:  66| CD

C&D winner in his prime but seems regressive at this stage despite being given plenty of assistance by the handicapper; an unappealing prospect.

Has managed a few placed efforts so far this year but the ground is a big question mark given he's unraced on ground softer than good to soft.

Verdict

It will probably pay to look towards the head of the weights in this contest, and preference is for COMPTON MILL. Hughie Morrison's five-year-old should relish the conditions and seems to be on a workable mark for a race that rate a suitable assignment for him given his current form. He enjoys to strong pace to come off and given there are a few front-runners here there's every chance he'll get that. Silver Ghost has finished behind the likes of Brorocco and Thundering Blue recently and is feared most, ahead of Miningrocks, blinkered for the first time.
  1. Compton Mill
