Made a modest debut at The Curragh in August but hinted at ability when second of four (winner rated 80) at Roscommon at the start of this month. More required and up in trip, so enough reasons to look elsewhere just now.

Changed hands for 45,000 gns as a yearling but made only a moderate start at Leopardstown back in June. Off since then and encounters very different ground, so comes here with plenty to prove.
Appeals on pedigree and, as is the custom from his yard, is related to plenty of winners. Needs to post a better effort than he did on debut but the extra demands on his stamina ought to suit, so has to merit at least a check in the betting.

Back to the scene of his inauspicious debut (last of 10). Hard to fancy on the evidence of his racecourse introduction and probably safe to assume others will be more determined.
Cost €200,000 but never a factor under a hands and heels ride when his chance had gone on debut. Likely to be more to come but the predicted heavy ground has to be a concern (sire flopped on heavy when favourite for the Arc).

Breeding suggests the step up in trip may suit but the way he emptied when only third at Gowran Park left a lot to be desired. Going to be a very well-bred handicapper after this, which may prove to be his preferred sector.

Good effort on debut but nowhere near as good when tried on heavy ground last time out. Very likable breeding but also has a lot to prove at present.
Third of five on debut but was getting the hang of things as the race progressed and is likely to have a good bit more to give. The ground is a concern but would be interesting if he attracts support from the betting market.

In the rear all the way on debut at Listowel and dramatic improvement is required from this Harbour Watch filly this afternoon. Others readily preferred.

Cost just €6,000 and has shown very little up to press. Likely she will be very leniently handicapped for the next phase of her career after this.

Forecasts

Whirling Dervish (9/4), Madrid (9/4), Fightfortheroses (4/1), Lucius Tiberius (9/2), Clueless Hill (12/1), Tashman (25/1), Fallen Forest (25/1), Cork Harbour (33/1), Mango Mama (66/1), Inis Cealtra (66/1)

Verdict

Aidan O'Brien has won three of the last ten renewals of this race and once again sends out the more likely candidates for success. Both Lucius Tiberius and Madrid appeal on pedigree and will be dangerous to leave out of the equation. However, FIGHTFORTHEROSES was clueless on debut and may be worth chancing now he has the benefit of a run and is asked to tackle a slightly longer trip. Whirling Dervish appeals the most from the non-O'Brien-trained contingent and will be a threat if handling the ground.
  1. Fightfortheroses
  2. Lucius Tiberius
  3. Whirling Dervish
