Has winning form at a variety of tracks, but handles Catterick well and was a runner up there last Saturday to Chickenfortea (beaten ¾L). 0 from 6 on the AW, but seems okay on this particular surface.

Has fallen like a stone in the weights over the past couple of years after a barren spell for Colin Teague. Back with his former trainer now (last start together was a winning one from a mark of 94 at Carlisle in September 2015).

C&D winner from a 4lb higher mark in August 2016. Has generally struggled this year, but has raced over 1m in three of his last four starts and could well appreciate a return to this more specialist distance.

Not able to build upon an eye-catching effort over C&D three weeks ago (fifth) when upped to 1m here last week. Handicapped to have a big say though on his best form here and no surprise if he bounces back over this trip.

Not won since June 2015 (for Richard Fahey), and has tumbled down the weights. Ran his best race yet for this trainer when a close up fifth of 13 to Kilbaha Lady here (1m) last week.

Made all to be a decisive 3½L winner of a 7f apprentices handicap at Redcar last week (soft), but unable to repeat the dose (unpenalised) at Beverley on Tuesday. Held up on her last visit to Newcastle, but a different approach likely tonight.

19th time lucky when scoring over C&D three weeks ago; Broughtons Fancy second and the fast finishing Grey Destiny fifth. Raised 4lb and far from certain to confirm those placings, but slowly developing into a consistent filly in her own grade.

Bombed out badly when racing far too freely over 1m here last week, but consistent prior to that and claims based upon his head second to the well treated Broctune Papa Gio over C&D three weeks ago.

Poor for the bulk of 2017 and was well beaten on his return to the Flat (from a spell over hurdles) over 1m2f here last week. Likely stronger once Southwell becomes a more regular fixture.

19 race maiden who has become somewhat of a stable switcher this term. Made a low-key debut for this yard at Thirsk earlier in the month (1m good to firm), but granted more stability now has a starting point from which too build.

One time decent handicapper for Keith Dalgleish, but woeful of late and scarcely manages to beat a rival these days. In free-fall in the handicap but impossible to recommend.

Made the most of a falling mark to get his head back in front when beating Jack Blane by a head over C&D three weeks ago. A 3lb rise is fair, and this Redcar loving veteran still ought to be competitive enough with cheek-pieces retained.

Seems well suited to Tapeta, with her last three starts on the surface reading 1,2,2. Races off the same mark as when 1¼L second to Masquerade Bling over C&D latest, bur her riders 5lb claim is a welcome addition as she seeks to reverse placings.

Verdict

Even for the most hardened Newcastle form student, this contest falls into the mission impossible category. Many of these horses have raced against each other with regularity over the course of the past month, and truthfully this rates as a no bet race. However, we plough on regardless seeking a winner and the tentative vote sways towards the Karen Tutty trained BROUGHTONS FANCY. This four time Woverhampton winner (ex David Evans trained) enjoys Tapeta and shaped much better when chasing home Masquerade Bling over C&D three weeks ago (Grey Destiny fifth). She remains on the same mark, but the winner has gone up 4lb, and with Gemma Tutty now claiming 5lb, she's effectively 9lb better off for 1¼L.
  1. Broughtons Fancy
  2. Gun Case
  3. Grey Destiny
