Has shown steady improvement in five starts and has been dropped 1lb since finishing fourth of 13 at Carlisle last time. Should be in the shake-up again.
Started 50-1 or bigger on all three starts, but has shown glimpses of ability. Likely to do better now he is handicapping, but the assessor has taken few chances.
Nicely-bred sort who has found life tough in handicap company, but should find this test more suitable. Positive jockey booking suggests a decent run is anticipated.
Best run in three starts saw her finish fourth of 11 at Catterick and a reproduction of that effort off this mark would give her prospects. Cost £100,000 as a yearling and clearly has something about her.
Signs of ability on one or two occasions, but has been well held in sellers on her last two starts. More exposed than most of her rivals.
Another filly making her first start in a handicap, she looks one of the more likely sorts. Steps up a furlong and returns from a break. One of two runners from her stable.
Well held on all four starts, two of which have come after being gelded. The extra furlong in his first handicap may help, but it will need to do.
Dipped her toe in nursery waters for the first time at Carlisle, but came up short after being hampered. Dropped 3lb for that run and is one of many with possibilities.
Already boasts fair form in nurseries and seems better over this trip than the 7f he has raced over on his last two starts. Feasibly handicapped and although vulnerable to a less-exposed type, he has solid claims.
Three down-the-field runs preceded a better effort in a first-time nursery over 7f at this track. The return to 6f and slightly sounder surface should help so she is not without hope.
Not much encouragement in three runs so far, but best effort was on this sort of surface and his appearance in a handicap for the first time offers hope of improvement. Worth a market check.
Has a wealth of experience compared to most of his rivals and was by no means disgraced at Musselburgh last time. Steps up in trip and may get involved, especially if the ground dries up.
Won a C&D seller last month, but two subsequent efforts over 7f have not been so good. Has dropped 2lb since her last run and has quite a bit going for her back at the scene of her victory.
Has knocked on the door in three nurseries over 7f. Drops back to 6f, but is a keen sort who should have no trouble laying up. One of the more appealing contenders.
Has been beaten quite a long way in three starts so far. Tries his luck in a handicap and needs to improve to trouble some of the best of his rivals.
Has failed to beat a rival in three runs so far and, on paper, has a mountain to climb. Runs in handicap company for the first time, though, and has been gelded since his last run. Hard to know what to expect.
Has been tried at a variety of trips from 5f to 1m, the last two in handicap company. Needs a first-time visor to have a positive effect.
Last of three runs was much her best when second over C&D to Society's Dream. Weighted to turn the tables on that rival and is certainly one to consider.
Tries handicapping for the first time after three poor efforts in maiden and novice company. Has been given a chance by the handicapper, but has plenty to prove.
Third to Society's Dream and Little Monkey over C&D two starts ago and has an obvious chance against those two at these weights. Disappointed over 7f last time and connections reach for cheekpieces.
Forecasts
Rock On Bertie (7/2), Excellent Times (9/2), Ray Purchase (6/1), Society's Dream (9/1), Istanbul Pasha (12/1), Lord Of The Glen (14/1), Elements Quest (14/1), Lady Sandy (16/1), Crazy World (20/1), Magic Ship (20/1), Rema Al Kuwait (20/1), Angie B (25/1), Little Monkey (25/1), Graphite Girl (28/1), Marconi (33/1), Furni Factors (33/1), Time For Treacle (33/1), Eyes of Fire (40/1), Sir Walter (50/1), The Gingerbreadman (66/1)
Plenty of guesswork involved with several of these making their debuts in a nursery. Rema Al Kuwait is interesting at this level given her price tag, while the first three home in last month's C&D seller - Society's Rock, Little Monkey and Angie B - have claims in a wide-open contest. Elements Quest is another interesting contender at this level and Ray Purchase catches the eye, but the percentage call is ROCK ON BERTIE, who brings fair form and experience to the table and can go wherever his jockey chooses from his middle draw.
- Rock On Bertie
- Ray Purchase
- Elements Quest
