Makes little appeal on pedigree and there was little to take from his debut. Sent off at 100/1 that day and only beat one home so hard to envisage he will find enough to take this.

Ground was slower than described last time when only beating one home in a muddling race. Debut effort offers more hope so one to note in the ring with champion rider (4-13 for the trainer) replacing an apprentice.

Has looked moderate in all 12 starts and comes here after a six month break. Best effort came from the front off a mark of 72 and that might be good enough for a place in a race as bad as this.

BHA rating of 42 reflects two inadequate performances in handicaps this term. Lots to prove and easy to oppose on first attempt over a mile.

Sixties Icon newcomer who cost 24,000gns as a yearling and is a half-brother to five winners. Looked a difficult ride on his Chelmsford debut and likely to need a lot more time.

Best run to date came over 7f here in May, when beaten under a length, which gives hope today, but needs to bounce back from mediocre efforts here and at Sandown. Stable showing signs of a revival and cheekpieces are tried.

20,000 gns son of Elusive City who was unloved in the market on debut. Likely to improve with more time but still worth checking for a market move in such lowly company.

Tailed-off on each start this year and beginning to look of little account. Off the track since May and has little to recommend her.

Runner-up in maidens at Nottingham and Doncaster but last of four when supported at Thirsk and possible conditions proved too soft. Switches back to an AW surface in a poor race so one for the shortlist.

Compton Place filly out of a dam who was a maiden at a mile. Would not have to be anything out of the ordinary to make a winning debut so worth checking what interest she attracts in the ring.

Cockney Rebel half-sister to a 1m1f winner. Never threatened after a slow start on debut when 7f trip would have been on sharp side. Could do better on this quicker surface but more likely to make her mark in handicaps.

Winker Watson half-sister to winning hurdler Jackblack. Makes little appeal on pedigree but could hardly have been found an easier introduction.

Placed in a couple of equally uninspiring maidens at Redcar and Newcastle and shapes as though she will do better over this trip.

Forecasts

Psychotic (11/8), Cape To Cuba (2/1), My Illusionist (6/1), Rivers Of Asia (14/1), Starboard Watch (16/1), Ladakhi (20/1), Fire Whirl (25/1), Saharan Star (25/1), Mini Moruga (25/1), Peter Stuyvesant (33/1), Compton Brave (66/1), Captain Cockle (66/1), Mette (66/1)

Verdict

It is difficult to be positive about the majority of these. Historically it is a contest which goes to a three-year-old and James Fanshawe has had a couple make the frame. CAPE TO CUBA needs to bounce back from a depressing effort last time but the switch back to this surface suggests the going was a factor that day. The stable have been struggling for winners but have had enough go close to suggest their horses are well. Psychotic catches the eye given the jockey booking and the promise evident on his debut. Starboard Watch has each-way possibilities.
