Decent staying handicapper who was returning from 15 months off the track when last of ten to St Mary's at Chester (2m good) just under three weeks ago. Dropped 3lb, but not raced on the AW since April 2015.

C&D winner on Tapeta (and thrived here on grass back in the day). Has fallen to a winnable mark, and steps back up to 2m for the first time since July; runner up over 1m4 at Musselburgh on her penultimate start.

Performed admirably at this track last winter, 1m2f winner in March, and beaten 1¾ by Final over 1m4f on his next start. Has gradually inched up in trip since then (and in the weights) but appears to stay 2m.

Not won since May 2016; a 1m4f Lingfield AW maiden for previous trainer David Lanigan, and not in the strongest of form during 2017. Finished sixth in the Northumberland Vase over C&D in July and now 4lb lower in a weaker race.

New Approach colt who produced a strong run near the finish to run down subsequent winner Sileel on debut in a Chelmsford maiden last month (1m5f+). Bred to be a stayer, and this young rider has made a pleasing start for Godolphin.

Has won three times since late May (1m6f to 2m) climbing the weights by 18lb to his current mark. Due to rise another 3lb after a pleasing effort at Musselburgh on Saturday (beaten a nose by Tor, 1m6f soft).

Bolted up when winning a Class 6 C&D handicap in June, but despite winning again at Wolverhampton in the interim (2m) hasn't always convinced (often starts slowly). Tapeta suits and a mark of 72 probably not beyond him if he applies himself.

Off the mark after a battle with Renfrew Street at Chelmsford (1m6f) recently; pair well clear. A longer trip looked to be the making of him, and he moves up again at a stiffer track, but has a 7lb rise in the weights to overcome.

Has ability as he demonstrated at York in June (neck runner up to Theydon Grey), but he's twice disappointed since then after racing prominently, including here latest (1m4f). Fallen 2lb, but needs to show more consistency in order to progress.

1m4f course classified stakes winner on a stellar day for his day trainer in June (saddled a four timer). Unable to build upon that success back in a handicap at Ripon since and needs more off this mark upped to 2m.

C&D winner in March from a 1lb higher mark, and a runner up on her only other start here on the AW. However, generally sharpest up at Musselburgh and has been coming up a little short of late.

Falling steadily in the weights, and never really had the pace to get involved when sixth to Sir Runs A Lot over 1m4f here last month. Worth trying over this longer trip, but this is a much more competitive contest.

Forecasts

Mobbhij (13/8), Chocolate Box (11/4), Dominating (9/2), On Fire (10/1), Montanna (14/1), Waiting For Richie (25/1), Whitecliff Park (25/1), Rite To Reign (33/1), Stoneham (33/1), Tetradrachm (50/1), Wor Lass (50/1), Carthage (100/1)

Verdict

A competitive 2m handicap to kick off the Newcastle action with Tetradrachm having contested the Northumberland Vase in June (sixth). Dominating arrives in excellent order after another pleasing effort at Musselburgh on Saturday, whilst Luca Cumani appears to have found the key to Chocolate Box, with his Chelmsford winner now stepping up in trip to 2m tonight. However, the horse with the most future potential is MOBBHIJ. Godolphin present the impressive David Egan with another opportunity to shine in the saddle, and this once raced three-year-old beat a subsequent Newcastle winner (Sileel) when taking a Chelmsford maiden on debut last month. Mobbhij promises to excel over this longer trip and is strongly fancied to score on handicap debut.
