Arrives after completing a cross-code hat-trick, the last two being on the Flat at up to 1m7f. A further 5lb rise demands more from him, but handles cut and saw out this trip here earlier in the season, so has chances again with 3lb claimed off him.

Handles cut, though has done all of his winning on good/good to firm. Gets 2m½f at his beloved York, the scene of his best performances, but inconsistent and while his mark looks attractive, this stiff track might stretch him a little too far.

Won over 2m at Nottingham when with Alan King, for whom he was beaten from today's mark, albeit if not far, earlier in the season. Runner-up over 2m1f at Bath (good to soft) last time and nudged up 1lb as a result, but claims if cheekpieces work.

Won back-to-back races over 1m6f (including on good to soft) at this time last year and proved himself over this far at Carlisle two starts ago. Not beaten far there or at York last time from this mark and should be in the mix.

Goes well here, having won over the 2m2f trip (heavy) last year and also going close over C&D (good) last month. Will appreciate this slower ground and from 1lb higher he has decent claims.

Was a 5L scorer over C&D on fast ground from 4lb higher last year, but has bee unable to add to that since. Goes well on softer ground and is on the sort of mark from which she could again make an impact, especially with 7lb claim off her back.

Won here over 2m2f (good to soft) 11 months ago when 5lb lower and has added a further win to her CV since. Tends to save some of her better efforts for here, so although she has a task on from this mark, she is not ruled out in first-time headgear.

Thorough stayers who has won here over C&D and also over the marathon 2m5½f earlier this season. Goes on any ground and now 2lb higher than that last win, he is entitled to plenty of respect.

Was 0-10 when with Dean Ivory and beaten 21L on his first run for this yard at Chelmsford (2m½f, AW) earlier in the month. A fair bit to prove with regards to his ability and whether he will handle the conditions and this stiff track.

Beaten a neck by Tuscan Gold here (good to firm) in April and meets him on the same terms today. Back to form over C&D last time, but it is now three years since her most recent course win and she looks to have more potential as an each-way play.

Stays 2m½f, though this marginally longer trip and very stiff track will still test her stamina. Remains a 19-race maiden and from this mark it would be a surprise if she proved good enough to break her duck this time.

Forecasts

Transpennine Star (2/1), Chebsey Beau (5/1), Almost Gemini (6/1), Bulas Belle (8/1), La Fritillaire (17/2), October Storm (10/1), Wordiness (10/1), Saved By The Bell (12/1), Tyrell (12/1), Madam Lilibet (14/1), Tuscan Gold (25/1), Treble Strike (33/1), Maple Stirrup (50/1)

Verdict

A few of these, including Tuscan Gold, La Fritillaire, Bulas Belle and Madam Lillibet, go very well here in these contests and it is not easy to be dogmatic about who has the best chance on the day. Similarly, Almost Gemini, Transpennine Star and Chebsey Beau each have claims, though the suggestion is TYRELL. Micky Hammond's saddles him for the first time today. He stays well, acts on the ground and first-time headgear might just give him the edge in a very tricky race to solve.
  1. Tyrell
  2. Almost Gemini
  3. Chebsey Beau
