C&D maiden winner last back-end who has contested some tough handicaps this term including the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. However, made most of a drop in grade to take a 7f Yarmouth handicap (good to firm) last month and now 4lb higher.

Stuck close to home in Newmarket during a four race career, and back to form when beaten 2½L by all the way winner Naval Warfare on the July course last month (1m good to soft). Up 1lb, and down in trip.

Not raced on turf since debut in June (Salisbury), but improved rapidly on the AW, winning a Newcastle maiden (7f) and a Class 3 Chelmsford handicap latest. Whilst that latter success was most impressive, he has a 10lb rise to overcome.

A two-time winner with cut over 1m (Windsor and Newmarket), but climbing steadily in the weights. No reason to believe that he'll be unsuited by a drop back in trip (races prominently), but others hold more compelling credentials.

6/1
Narrow 6f Newcastle maiden winner in November 2016, but has broadly done okay in stronger company over 6f and 7f since returning to action in June. Beaten narrowly over C&D latest (third) by Bertiewhittle, but up another 1lb in the weights.

Yet to win beyond 6f, and remains 7lb higher than when last successful at Pontefract in October 2016. Seems to handle cut, and didn't quite get home over 1m at Sandown recently (third), but others appear better treated.

7/2
Followed up his course 5f debut success by leading late to score narrowly on handicap debut at Windsor (6f) in early July (High Acclaim fourth). Well held in a Group 3 at Deauville since, but this looks more realistic, now tackling a longer trip.

Bengal Lancer19
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: Manuel Fernandes(7)| T: Ian Williams| OR:  85| D
9/2
Firmly on the rise since upped to 7f, and backed up a victory in a Salisbury apprentices handicap (unpenalised) with an 8L demolition job at the same venue nine days later. Up 14lb, and in grade, but does handle cut in the ground.

Forecasts

Lahore (7/2), Bengal Lancer (9/2), Hyde Park (11/2), Six Strings (6/1), Important Mission (13/2), Night Circus (8/1), Pillar Of Society (8/1), High Acclaim (16/1)

Verdict

One couldn't fail to be impressed with the manner in which Important Mission disposed of his eleven rivals on the Polytrack at Chelmsford last month, and a double digit rise in the weights was probably to be expected. The William Haggas trained three-year-old remains unexposed on grass and is a most likely worthy market leader. However, HYDE PARK is a previous C&D winner, and this John Gosden trained Oasis Dream gelding could prove a tough nut to crack despite top-weight. He took advantage of a marginal easing in grade to win well in the first time tongue tie at Yarmouth recently (7f) and a subsequent 4lb rise in the weights would appear perfectly fair.
