Quirky sort, won as he pleased at the Galway Festival over longer trip early last month before proving no match for Order Of St George at the Curragh. Big ask conceding weight all round, though it does allow champion jumps jockey partner him.
Appeared to be going places when winning final three starts last year but has so far found increased rating too much in three runs this term. Needs to unlock a bit more from somewhere.
High-class hurdler, doesn't have many miles on the clock in this sphere but good as ever on Flat last month at Killarney, scoring decisively over 1m6f. Useful 5lb claimed from ratings hike by promising rider, shortlisted for this dropping in trip.
Has three wins from 11 starts on the Flat, latest over 1m6f at Killarney in August 2016. Running consistent races this season without getting head in front, cannot be ruled out with certainty.
Victorious over 1m6f at Bellewstown (good) on his most recent outing in July. Has been raised 6lb for that effort and is an interesting runner dropping back in trip for this competitive heat. Career-best needed.
Scored a pair of handicap wins earlier in the summer at up to 1m2½f and generally performing well, rating sky-rocketed after those wins however. No match for Snow Falcon last time out.
Good winner over 1m4f at Fairyhouse on good, good to firm in July. Makes handicap debut and has the potential to improve, champion jockey stays faithful. Would have questions to answer on soft ground.
British raider, winner over 1m6f at Sandown on reappearance in June on good to firm, gone well in both starts since and last month's Newbury third showed he'll handle cut in the ground. Should be a player in this contest.
Won the Cork Derby in June over this trip on decent ground, effectively 8lb higher for this and more exposed than a good many of these.
Has run well over this trip at times this term and yard are in solid form, would require his absolute optimum to win seemingly and the hustle and bustle of this field size will be new territory.
6lb higher than when narrowly winning Fairyhouse handicap over this trip in July, well beaten off at York next time out and others looks better placed at the moment.
Didn't run a bad race over this trip at Royal Ascot when last spotted, but has yet to convince he can win off current rating. One of two for Ballydoyle and never easy to discount them.
Back from a long layoff this summer and has looked progressive in four runs, winning at Navan and the Curragh over this sort of trip. No match for Snow Falcon last time, but drop in trip should help case.
Very lightly-raced on the Flat and scored over the trip last time at Tramore with gutsy success, front two having come well clear. 6lb penalty for that win and this is plenty tougher, but not crossed off.
Yet to win on turf in four starts, goes back up in trip after close third on AW at Dundalk last month (1m2½f). Respected for powerful yard but on line through Jan Van Eyck, has plenty work on to get past St Stephens Green.
Winner last month at Killarney over this sort of trip on soft ground but cut no ice at Bellewstown in follow-up attempt, represents in-form Weld team but Smullen being employed elsewhere may be a clue to chances.
No win on the Flat since 2014, fair form in three hurdles runs this year so far and fit from recent Bellewstown second in that sphere. Trainer adept at this sort of contest, claimer helps matters and worth noting.
Scored hat-trick early in the summer at up to 1m3f, some question marks over soft ground and stiff ask from 3lb out of the handicap with yard 2-42 lately.
Run some fair races in decent handicaps this term, including last month at Killarney (1m6f) when fourth of 14. Getting no favours on these terms however and surely faces difficult task.
Filly was a 33/1 winner of a mile maiden at Listowel on debut in June, well held in both starts since over longer journeys and will be causing another sizeable shock if she pockets this prize.
Forecasts
Snow Falcon (3/1), Machine Learner (8/1), St Stephens Green (8/1), Daybreak Boy (10/1), Utah (10/1), Renneti (12/1), Sea The Lion (12/1), Laws Of Spin (14/1), Artful Artist (14/1), Le Vagabond (14/1), Clongowes (16/1), Landsman (16/1), Percy (16/1), Song Of Namibia (20/1), De Coronado (22/1), Dalton Highway (25/1), Tara Dylan (33/1), Moonmeister (33/1), Tilly's Chilli (33/1), Elusive Duchess (50/1)
Oisin Orr won this race last year on Quick Jack and it is no shock that Noel Meade has snapped him up to partner SNOW FALCON now. A convincing winner at Killarney over 1m6f last time, he has not escaped the handicapper's attention but his rider helps with that. A top-class hurdler, he doesn't have many miles under his belt in this sphere and could still ahead of his mark. This is a tough puzzle to solve and many have chances, with luck in running a must. The quirky Renneti brings Ruby Walsh for a rare Flat outing and while it won't be easy off top weight, the duo have the talent to be involved. Song Of Namibia comes here in good heart though requiring a career-best while British raider Machine Learner is greatly respected after some promising efforts this campaign. St Stephens Green is a potential improver while Sea The Lion should go well dropped in trip and Utah appeals most of the Ballydoyle duo.
- Snow Falcon
- St Stephens Green
