Quite hard to see how the handicapper came up with a mark of 70 for his handicap debut and he's quickly dropped 5lb for this start. Still looks on too high a mark on what he's achieved s far though.

Not run on the Flat since this time last year when he ran over a mile here and has an overall record of 0/9 on the Flat being far better known over fences (four-time winner). Has been in good form of late over obstacles and could run well here off a decent mark.

Winner here last time out over 4f shorter here and this will be the furthest trip that he's tried in his career. Not one to rely on to follow-up however looking at his overall profile and the 4lb higher mark plus the new trip are both question marks.

His two wins this year came over this trip the last off just a 2lb lower mark and he handles soft conditions. Last two runs have suggested that this mark isn't beyond him and he might be a little better than the result last time and not written off here.

Yet to win a race and it was easy to see why last time out when he travelled well through the race at Lingfield but managed to throw the race away. Nudged up 2lb for that run and still looks capable of winning this but not hard to have doubts also.

The increased trip and a strongly run race appeared to be very much a scenario that suited her last time out as she landed her first race/handicap off a lowly mark. The rise of 4lb looks within her compass and given a similar test could well follow up.

Backed into favouritism on his handicap debut when with Tom Dascombe he didn't really impress at Redcar over 1m2f (poorly placed) and failed to run any better the next time. Now with new yard up in trip and with plenty to prove.

Forecasts

Leapt (6/4), Ocean Gale (9/4), Incus (5/1), Red Riverman (7/1), Frantical (7/1), Nigh Or Never (11/1), Tyrolean (12/1)

Verdict

This should be quite a test and that’s what OCEAN GALE looked to be suited by a Salisbury last time out and off a lowly mark she still has room for further progress. Leapt certainly travels well in his races but looks a little quirky and may be hard to trust while there is no guarantee that Frantical will stay this trip. Red Riverman will stay this trip switching back from fences but may not quite have the pace to cope and Incus should be given a chance to show that his running last time was all wrong.
  1. Ocean Gale
  2. Incus
  3. Leapt
