One of four C&D runners and worthy of respect on the jockey booking alone after running a respectable race last time out at Doncaster over 3f further and in a slightly better grade. Not won for a while but this is far easier than recent tasks and he may well appreciate the drop in grade.

Ridden by the other eminent rider in this field which makes this C&D winner of interest here especially as he comes from a yard in good form. He's yet to hit the heights of last year when he won twice but he's down to a good mark here and back in the right grade.

Last seen to best effect back in 2015 when he was winning over hurdles and on the turf and AW in a golden spell that he's found hard to repeat. His form of late has been fairly ordinary and he's offered little even tried in cheekpieces and this doesn't look enough of a test of stamina for him.

Took a similar race over C&D on his penultimate start and appears very at home in these sorts of races although he found life tough under a penalty last time again over C&D. Even off his revised mark he's still 3lb above his last winning one and on balance he probably only has a place chance here.

One of two-three-year olds in the field he's a rare runner at the course for this yard having already won twice this year in maiden/handicap company. Took a 0-75 handicap last time out at Ripon where the decent pace played to his strengths although his finishing effort has on occasions looked a little weak.

From a yard whose horses are definitely running well above form at the moment he would need to catch that bug to take a hand here. The saving grace for him may be that his last two wins came under this rider in the same type of race off a 2lb higher mark on the AW and he's also a C&D winner. His recent form would suggest that he's not in the same form now though.

Has some useful hurdles form (last win came off 121) and he's made fair use of his lowly Flat mark in June winning handicaps off 48/54 the last in an amateur riders contest. Ran over C&D off an increased mark on his penultimate start and looked as though this trip wasn't enough of a test for him.

The other three-year-old in the field his one win so far has come in a mile nursery on the culmination of his juvenile career on testing ground at Thirsk. Has shaped like a real stayer in his three races this year and even this trip looks on the sharp side for him.

Has won around this course and showed his best recent form when winning over 1m6f at Redcar off a mark of 55. Not totally to blame for a poor run last time out when badly hampered in the closing stages but more probably needed here.

It took a drop to claiming grade to see him win last time out and to break his maiden with the visor and tongue-tie combination applied for the first time over a much shorter distance than he faces today. Steps up a 2f here having struggled in handicaps before with this his first run for his new yard (have done well with their GB runners).

Has certainly been around the block in terms of trainers and shaped well after a long break at Doncaster in July over 1m4f off a mark of 52. He failed to back that up last time though and from 3lb out of the handicap has only a slight chance here.

Forecasts

Pete So High (7/2), Sellingallthetime (5/1), Tonto's Spirit (11/2), Wotabreeze (6/1), Nordic Combined (6/1), Swansway (8/1), Duke Of Yorkshire (14/1), All For Nothing (16/1), Tropical Bachelor (20/1), Midnight Warrior (33/1), Serenity Now (50/1)

Verdict

A race that doesn’t make that much appeal as a betting medium and the mounts of leading riders Simon Walker – Wotabreeze – and Serena Brotherton – Sellingallthetime – are sure to attract attention. Tonto’s Spirit should be capable of making an impact based on his hurdles rating although this trip does look a little short for him. Both Duke Of Yorkshire and Swansway are C&D winners but more than likely will need to improve to take this and the suggestion is the three-year-old PETE SO HIGH. He carries a penalty here but looks to have some progress left in him and should be well handled by Alex Ferguson.
