Stepped up in trip and built upon his Newbury debut when a ½L winner on his second outing at Newmarket last month. Penalised, and that form hasn't really been boosted since, but there's likely more to come from this £130,000 yearling. Respected.

Acclamation colt, cost 10,000 gns as foal, €60,000 as a yearling and 170,000 gns as two-year-old. Probably ran better than the finishing position suggests on debut at Newmarket (7f good to firm) and should strengthen with more experience and with a former champion in the saddle. Tongue tied.

55,000 gns yearling who attracted support on debut at Lingfield recently (7f soft) but was ultimately far too green to do himself justice after missing the break. Surely sharper with experience and a better showing is anticipated.

250,000 gns yearling by Holy Roman Emperor whose dam was a half-sister to 1m4f AW winner Rosenbaum. Finished one place in front of Strategic on debut at Salisbury (7f) in mid July and suggested that better was to come. However, lacked a gear change at Newmarket subsequently (on softer ground) and needs to better that effort now.

Cost just £4,500 as a yearling, and this fifth foal has been absent since late May and looks up against it this afternoon on just his second career start (missed the break at Wolverhampton).

Raced only with cut so far and broadly did okay on debut at Salisbury in May (5f) but nowhere near as promising back from a short break latest (6f soft at Newbury) and others appear stronger candidates.

€70,000 yearling who was frankly clueless on debut at Windsor in late June (6f good to firm), but much wiser when hampered in making his effort at Salisbury a few weeks later (7f). Closely matched with Groveman (beaten since) on that evidence and should run well.

Showed marked improvement on her second start at Epsom last month (7f good to firm) but not quite enough to expect her to figure against some of these much costlier purchases. One for a small nursery somewhere in time.

Forecasts

Tadleel (2/1), Al Ozzdi (7/2), Groveman (4/1), Strategic (5/1), Fenagh (6/1), General Marius (11/1), Couldn't Could She (20/1), Reverberation (25/1), Puramente (40/1)

Verdict

Plenty of these horses look likely potential improvers, not least the slow learning Strategic and General Marius. However, TADLEEL has winning form in the book, and although penalised accordingly should make a bold bid to follow up his narrow Newmarket July success.
  1. Tadleel
  2. Strategic
  3. General Marius
