Has shown some promise in three maidens while earning this mark of 66 for her handicap debut. That looks fair and now that she returns to the sort of trip over which she produced her best effort, she is entitled to plenty of respect.
Put up her best effort yet on her handicap debut at Ayr (1m5f, good) last time when a 3L fourth in first-time cheekpieces. The drop of a furlong shouldn't be an issue and from the same mark he has to be short-list material.
Has had a few goes in handicaps so far and made the most impact when 1lb higher at Pontefract (1m, good to firm) in April. Pedigree suggests that this trip will suit him and given that he has run well when fresh and the yard has had one or two go well of late, he could represent a bit of value. Handles good to soft.
Made improvement to win with a bit in hand at Wolverhampton (1m6f, AW) in first-time cheekpieces last time. Raised 7lb for that, but unexposed over this trip and from a yard in cracking form, so with 3lb claimed off his back he can again go close, provided he handles the ground.
Made a nice enough handicap debut at Lingfield (1m2f, AW) in February and the assessor has eased his burden by 1lb for this return after six months off. First start for this yard/on turf today and you couldn't rule him out if he handles these conditions.
Already has a C&D win on good to soft to her name this season, in what was a better race than this, though not quite as good on either of her last two outings (perhaps didn't stay 1m6f last time). From the same mark, but dropped in trip, she could still make an impact at this level.
Well beaten in all three handicap starts so far, including a maiden version (1m2f) at Pontefract last time. Now upped to a trip over which his dam was successful on good to soft ground, so there is potential for some improvement, and coupled with a 5lb drop that is interesting.
Slipping to the sort of mark from which he may now get competitive, after a couple of reasonable recent efforts over 1m1f-1m2f. Pedigree suggests that this is likely to stretch his stamina too far, however, and he is probably one to watch again today.
This is beginning to look like her optimum trip, though he form so far with cut in the ground suggests that she will find it tough in these conditions and either way, she is probably one in need of a further drop in the handicap before coming good.
Well beaten in all four starts to date, including on his handicap introduction at Hamilton (1m½f, good) when last seen in June. Dropped just 1lb for that and very hard to fancy over a trip that pedigree suggests will be too far.
Has failed to get competitive in all six starts so far, the last three in handicaps. Out of the handicap after a 5lb drop for this and not easy to make a case for her.
Forecasts
Sheriff Garrett (10/3), Vindicator (4/1), Dyna Might (4/1), Fire Leopard (9/2), Siyahamba (9/1), Shakabula (14/1), Silver Gleam (20/1), My Brother Mike (20/1), Mister Moosah (20/1), What's Up Walter (50/1), Thornton Mary (100/1)
This shouldn't take a great deal of winning and it could be the day to take a chance on SHAKABULA, who has dropped 5lb and gets to race for the first time over a trip which his dam was successful with some cut in the ground. Sheriff Garrett looks an obvious danger despite a 7lb rise, while Fire Leopard and Vindicator are others with claims. A good run at a price by Mister Moosah would not surprise.
- Shakabula
- Sheriff Garrett
- Vindicator
