Slapped with a 4lb rise having appeared on his way back here during Guineas week. More highly tried on his next two starts but this looks easier and the handicapper has relented. Both his victories have been over this shorter trip and that may help him settle better.

Form of his Doncaster maiden victory worked out well and he followed up there under this rider two weeks ago in comfortable style. He was ridden further off the pace on his two intervening starts but nevertheless produced a solid run in a hot race at Sandown. Drops in distance but possesses bags of pace and should not be troubled by the move. Rider 14-57 on the yard's three-year-olds for an 18 points profit.

Has run well in Listed races in the past but now no win since the Shergar Cup Sprint in 2015. Claims on his Newcastle third in a hot race but disappointing since and was due to wear a visor when withdrawn at Windsor last week.

Last win came 15 months ago off a 12lb higher mark. Highly tried since but signs last time that he was finding his level when running on for fourth. Rider 8-40 on the yard's older horses for a 20 point profit.

Has winning form from 5f-1m1f but has a record of 0-17 at this trip and only managed to make the frame three times. On top of that he looks fully weighted and arrives on the back of a poor run ten days ago.

Last three runs have been dreadful but he returns to his optimum trip and a track which has produced some of his best performances. Drops in class and to a career low mark.

Landed a good race at Chester's May meeting off 1lb lower. Comfortably held on both starts since but the stable were struggling at that time and are faring much better now. Gelded since his last run.

Winner of two races this term and currently edging up the weights with a string of gallant efforts in defeat. Faces her sternest to date but should give another good account.

Has picked up a couple of races in Jersey this summer and profile suggests he needs quicker ground than is forecast here. Appears better in lower grade races than this and hard to fancy.

Forecasts

Firefright (2/1), Mont Kiara (5/1), Moonraker (11/2), Ice Lord (13/2), Love Oasis (13/2), Clear Spring (9/1), Zamjar (16/1), Swiss Cross (18/1), Captain Lars (40/1)

Verdict

Clear Spring appears to have dropped to a mark from which he can be competitive nowadays and his latest run gives him an each-way shout in this. Mont Kiara reserves his best for Newmarket and cannot be overlooked despite his recent form. Zamjar has claims on the form of his Chester victory and Love Oasis takes on her toughest task to date. Ice Lord has ruined his chances by pulling too hard, but his effort here in May gives him an obvious chance. FIREFRIGHT was such an easy winner last time that it is unlikely a 6lb rise will halt his progress. His previous win has always shown him to be potentially well treated and now that connections have found the key to him, then more wins can come his way.
  1. Firefright
  2. Clear Spring
  3. Love Oasis
