Last time out winner at Kempton (2m, standard to slow), and has seemed to be at his most effective over this trip in the past. Has form on this type of ground and should be capable of going very close here.
Won over slightly shorter at this course last time out, and carries a 6lb penalty as a result. Looked capable of defying that sort of rise in his style of victory last time, in what looks to be only a slightly more difficult race.
No win on the Flat since August 2015 but has won over hurdles since and run some good races across both codes. May be vulnerable to a younger rival in his relative old age, however.
Unconvincing over hurdles recently but altogether better on the Flat and would be competitive if running to the level of a very close second over this trip at Chepstow last June.
Won a maiden hurdle over the winter but couldn't build on that in the other code, holds some fair form over middle-staying trips on the Flat and should enjoy the conditions; certainly respected.
Won four out of five in a row last year but hasn't been able to repeat that form while carrying a bigger weight since and remains on a higher mark than even the most recent of those victories.
Played only a small role at Kempton in May on his first start for over a year and a half, though that can be forgiven due to the length of the absence. Difficult to see him bouncing back here, though.
Not as effective since moving to this trainer but it is at least encouraging to see him tried over this trip again, as it is his optimum. Recently has been more impressive on the all-weather.
Forecasts
Authorized Too (5/2), Nabhan (4/1), Entihaa (4/1), Sporty Yankee (6/1), Spice Fair (7/1), Norab (8/1), Lady Makfi (14/1), Dire Straits (16/1)
This looks to be between NABHAN and Authorized Too. The first-named shades preference due to the style of his victory last time out, and given he only carries a 6lb penalty here there's every chance he can double up if able to replicate that performance on ground that he has winning form on. A big run is also expected from the latter, Noel Williams' trained runner, who was also impressive last time but faces a sterner test now returning to turf. Sporty Yankee is also respected on his return from a hurdling campaign.
- Nabhan
- Authorized Too
- Sporty Yankee
