Ran only to a similar level on her second start having acquitted herself fairly well on his debut at Brighton in May. Has been given longer between races now but will need to show more marked improvement to have a say.

Not disgraced on debut at Newbury earlier in the month (6f, good), but more needed now, especially in possibly softer conditions.

Ortiz
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-13| J: Harry Bentley| T: H Candy
7/2
Havana Gold filly who cost £11,000 as a yearling. Related to a couple of winners and bred to get this trip, with the market sure to prove informative on debut.

Raven's Girl30
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-13| J: George Wood(3)| T: M Madgwick| OR:  43
200/1
Has only beaten two horses home in three races so far, and returns to this trip having performed poorly over this distance and others in her previous outings.

Sweet Vixen25

9/2
Showed improved form from a slightly disappointing debut to be only narrowly beaten on soft ground at Nottingham last time out. That run frames her as a leading contender for this, and apparently she would prefer further rainfall.

Horse silk
50/1
Ran only moderately on debut at Kempton in May and needs to find more improvement than is practically feasible in order to figure here.

80/1
Beaten 24L into last of 16 on debut at Newbury last month when sent off 100/1 and similar odds seem likely given the way she performed that day.

Horse silk
9/4
Ran a fair race on debut to finish fourth despite showing some signs of her inexperience. Has to have a big chance if having come on from that debut at all.
10

Horse silk
33/1
Beaten 50L into last of 15 on debut at Newbury earlier in the month and is effectively impossible to make a case for following that performance.

Horse silk
22/1
Ran a fair race on debut at Kempton last time out but wasn't particularly eye-catching, further progress possible on turf debut but unlikely to be enough to land a serious blow.

Horse silk
33/1
Compton Place filly who cost 4,500gns as a yearling. Dam's only other progeny to date is relatively unremarkable but she should at least appreciate this trip on debut.

Dolydaydream
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-11| J: F Sweeney| T: P Phelan
100/1
Equiano filly. First foal from her dam, and though she did win over this trip the trainer is 1/98 with juveniles over the past five seasons.

Horse silk
7/1
Elusive Pimpernel related to a couple of winners and sent out by a trainer who isn't incapable of having a juvenile winner, though she only a cost a very small amount to buy.

Horse silk
Zapateado
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-11| J: S W Kelly| T: R Hughes
20/1
Zoffany filly who cost €18000 as a 2yo and is related to quite a few winners. Most of those are over further but there is some 6f form in her pedigree and she is capable of going well on debut.

Forecasts

Escape The City (9/4), Ortiz (7/2), Sweet Vixen (9/2), Villa Savina (7/1), Fusion Central (14/1), Lamb Chop (16/1), Moremoneymoreparty (16/1), Zapateado (20/1), Catch The Pigeon (22/1), Bhindi (33/1), Compton Grace (33/1), Anna Briggs (50/1), Arachina (80/1), Dolydaydream (100/1), Raven's Girl (200/1)

Verdict

This is an open looking maiden, but perhaps ESCAPE THE CITY can provide the answer. Many of these, including Hughie Morrison's filly, have run just the once, but the selection shaped with the most promise of these and can improve for that first run. Sweet Vixen has already shown she can improve with her performance last time and is feared most, while Ortiz is the most interesting of the newcomers.
  1. Escape The City
  2. Sweet Vixen
  3. Ortiz
