Has stopped the slide on his last couple of starts, going close at Beverley in May and then the step up to this trip bringing about a bit of improvement at Newcastle last time. Poor overall strike rate, so not one for the mortgage, but obvious chances.
Actually beat Douvan back in 2014 on his French debut, some big absences mean he's had his issues but looked back to form over C&D last time, tried to make all and only giving best late on. Repeat of that puts him bang in the frame.
Have to go back almost 2 years since his last win, and various combinations of headgear tried recently, with little improvement. Hard to work up much enthusiasm for chances based on latest effort, and others look stronger.
In good form, finished in front of Konig Dax over C&D last time out and meets that one on the same terms today. Trip and likely ground ideal and seems certain to run his race once more. Shortlisted.
Won from a 9lb higher mark last year, so no qualms on that score, but recent form nothing to write home about and stepping up in trip today as well. Plenty to prove at present.
Has finished tailed off on his last four starts and appears to have gone completely off the boil. Behind a few of these last time and no realistic chance.
C&D winner two starts ago (soft ground) and ran a bit better than finishing position suggested at Ripon last time, appearing not to get the trip. Drop back to 10f here looks a good move, and will appreciate any rain. Not ruled out.
Ran a bit better for the application of blinkers at Carlisle two starts ago, but couldn't build on that at Hamilton last time, pulling too hard and weakening quickly. Still early days with him but needs to show a bit more.
Forecasts
Lucent Dream (7/4), Gerry The Glover (7/2), Rubis (6/1), Powerful Love (15/2), Hernandoshideaway (8/1), Konig Dax (10/1), Zealous (20/1), Spes Nostra (25/1)
KONIG DAX has a famous scalp to his name in the shape of champion chaser Douvan, and whilst there's nothing of that calibre in here today he does look ready to strike again after a better effort last time out. He can take this at the expense of Rubis, who might do better now dropped back in trip, and the hard-to-win-with Gerry The Glover likely to be in the thick of it again.
- Konig Dax
- Rubis
- Gerry The Glover
