But a tame debut performance well behind him in two victories so far this year, including when winning more impressively than the neck margin suggests at Haydock last time. Further improvement likely up 6lb.
This is easier than his recent races but the step up to this trip doesn't seem the obvious choice with his sole win so far having come over 5f and him not seemingly seeing out 6f on a couple of occasions.
Put in a career-best to win at Chester last time and is raised 5lb as a result. Going the right way and races over his ideal trip here, and is capable of making the running in a race lacking any other proper pace angles.
Impressed with the manner of his victory at Haydock last time when making it 2-2 in his career despite things not going his way throughout the race. Unexposed and still potentially on a lenient mark, he is the one to beat here.
Yet to get going for this yard, having previously been with Richard Hannon, and needs to leave a 10L defeat into last at Sandown last time (7f, good to firm), well behind.
Up 6lb for victory at Newmarket last time, but that was his best effort so far by some margin. That much improvement again seems unlikely, however, and others hold more convincing claims.
Unable to build on a narrow debut victory on two starts since, but hasn't been disgraced on either occasion, and may not have been suited by the soft ground. Could be a contender for a place here.
Forecasts
Silent Echo (2/1), Pennsylvania Dutch (5/2), Lualiwa (9/2), Sir Reginald Brown (11/2), Derek Duval (12/1), Medici Banchiere (14/1), Kreb's Cycle (25/1)
The one who appeals most is PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH, who did very well to win at Haydock last time having run very keenly early on and not enjoyed the best start either. William Haggas' gelding is probably the contender most open to further improvement as well, but off his current mark he may not even need to find much of it. Lualiwa may provide the biggest danger if allowed a soft lead, while Silent Echo is another who could threaten if overcoming a 6llb rise in the weights for a recent victory at Haydock.
- Pennsylvania Dutch
- Lualiwa
- Silent Echo
