Easy Listowel maiden winner (1m, good) early last month before being outclassed in the Britannia Stake at Royal Ascot subsequently. Sights lowered now and not one to write off too soon.

Good winner of 1m good ground handicap at Navan in April off a mark of 82, timid run in the Britannia at Royal Ascot since but this is a more realistic mission.

Maiden winner over the mile at Navan (good) on final start of 2016, off since and one to note in the betting ahead of handicap bow. Yard remains a bit quiet.

Won maiden over C&D in May and scored again off a mark of 78 in handicap last month. Since gone down ½L off this new mark at Roscommon over 1m2f (good) and is one to take very seriously back in this favoured environment.

Improved nicely on second start last month to win 7f Naas maiden (good to firm) and could have more to offer now sent handicapping for the first time over longer trip.

Five-race maiden but has gone well in some smart maidens already and beaten under 2L in 1m1½f in handicap debut off a mark of 78. Not without merits from 1lb lower mark now dropped in trip.

Good reappearance at Naas over this trip in May but has since found increased handicap mark tough to handle over longer trips at Navan and Down Royal. Back down in trip but others make more appeal on these terms.

Forecasts

Auckland (11/8), Lightening Fast (7/2), Moritzburg (9/2), Diarist (9/1), Rise Again (12/1), I'm So Fancy (14/1), Ontheiflist (14/1)

Verdict

AUCKLAND has twice scored over C&D this season already and despite a rising handicap mark could have more to offer still. He may have allowed the eventual winner too much rope at Roscommon earlier in the week over a longer trip when settling for second spot but can regain the winning thread now at this favoured track and trip. Moritzburg showed enough in winning a Listowel maiden to warrant respect and isn't harshly judged on last month Royal Ascot failure while similar sentiments apply to Lightening Fast, who was also down the field in the Britannia Stakes. Handicap debutant Rise Again and Diarist complete the shortlist.
  1. Auckland
  2. Moritzburg
  3. Diarist
