Interesting that all but one of his wins have been over shorter than this and he does tend to find one too good when racing over this far. Nonetheless, there is no doubt that he gets the trip and he was beaten just a neck over C&D from today's mark last week. Should go very close.
Ironic that this looks to be his optimum trip, but he has yet to win over it, despite running very well in several near misses. Fast ground also suits and if he handles the track on his first visit, then he certainly has a squeak following a 1lb drop.
At his best when there is some cut in the ground on turf, which he is unlikely to get here. Should be very competitive from this mark, but given the ground and also this trip, which is probably the limit of his stamina, he has a stiff enough task on his hands.
Another whose best turf form has been with cut in the ground, or certainly no quicker than good. Has a chance given that he is just 2lb higher than when winning over this trip at Bath in May (soft), though he is not the most consistent performer as evidenced by his run last time. Probably worth taking on.
0-7 so far and has put together some relatively consistent performances, only one of which has really threatened to produce a win. That was at least over this trip, which is a positive, and he does act on fast ground too, so he has stronger claims than some but will still need to find a bit more to win.
Goes into this 2lb lower than his last win which was at Haydock (1m2f, soft) last season. Had traffic problems when dropped to this mark for his last outing at Ayr, but with a trouble-free run and 7lb off his back he might again have a say today. Acts on the forecast ground.
Forecasts
Berrahri (11/8), Transmitting (3/1), Lopito de Vega (7/2), East India (7/1), Berkeley Vale (8/1), Anton Chigurh (33/1)
Berrahri will probably not get too many better chances to win over this trip, but he is clearly vulnerable when tried over it and the percentage call is to try find something to beat him again. That might just be EAST INDIA on this occasion. George Baker's five-year-old has also gone close a few times over this distance, but a 1lb drop gives cause for optimism that he can win on ground that suits. Berkeley Vale has claims if reproducing his Bath effort, while Lopito de Vega is not ruled out.
- East India
- Berrahri
- Lopito de Vega
