All five of his wins have been from 7f-1m on good or soft ground, so he is having to contend with conditions that are plenty quick enough here. Should be able to get competitive from this mark, but is probably in need of a favour from the handicapper before winning again.

Won a 1m3f Southwell maiden in May before tilting at windmills here in the Derby last time (last of 18, beaten 33L). Interesting that his in-form top trainer chooses to drop him significantly in trip and he should be capable of giving a very good account now at a more realistic level.

Another Southwell maiden winner (1m, AW) who was beaten less than 2L here over C&D in April on good ground. 1lb higher today and well held from this mark last time at Goodwood. May fare better now back at this venue and not ruled out.

Didn't see the racecourse as a juvenile but her top trainer has wasted no time in getting plenty of experience into her and she has gone close in both a maiden and also last time a Beverley handicap (1m½f, good to firm). This is tougher and she will need significant improvement to break her duck.

Forecasts

Native Prospect (6/5), Pealer (9/4), Hamster Jam (3/1), Harlequin Striker (13/2)

Verdict

NATIVE PROSPECT ran well over C&D a couple of starts ago and if you can forgive him his latest effort at Goodwood, he looks better suited to this trip than chief rival Pealer, and is taken to score. Harlequin Striker should be competitive but looks exposed, while Hamster Jam is in need of more improvement than she has been showing.

  3. Harlequin Striker
