Finished runner-up on debut for previous yard at Catterick (good-to-soft) in an extended 1m7f handicap chase in December but pulled up and fourth in two subsequent starts for that stable. Hampered when well beaten on debut for this yard last month and an interesting runner in this.

Sole win in a 23 race career came on the AW over two years ago. Handicap mark falling following a number of heavy defeats and others make more appeal here.

25/1
Modest form under rules in 2016 and held prior to falling in a maiden point-to-point in May. Beaten 61L on return to rules racing at Ffos Las (2m, good) last month and others make more appeal here.

Maiden after six starts including when 25L fifth of 12 over 2m at Uttoxeter (good) last month. Worth a check in the market for shrewd connections stepping up in trip here.

Beaten 12L into second over 2m7f on good ground here in May and finished a fair fourth over the same C&D subsequently. Pulled up over fences here last time and interesting on his return to hurdles.

Wore a first time visor when finishing third of 11 over 3m1f at Huntingdon (good-to-soft) last November. Disappointed three times since then and blinkers are tried for the first time today.

Placed once from eight starts when trained by David Rees. That placed effort came on good ground over 3m at Ffos Las in October 2015 and races from out of the handicap on debut for new yard following a 19 months absence.

Forecasts

Magical Thomas (3/1), State The Obvious (4/1), Culm Counsellor (5/1), Glanvilles Guest (7/1), Shanksforamillion (8/1), Money For Nothing (8/1), Seymour Legend (10/1), Royal Chief (20/1), Kovera (25/1), Vision Des Champs (50/1)

Verdict

ROYAL CHIEF finished third under a useful amateur jockey last time out and can go two better by taking this concluding event. The selection is versatile in terms of trip and should have no problems with the step back up in trip here and he can see off Money For Nothing who has joined a good yard and was hampered when finishing well beaten last time. Handicap debutant and top weight Glanvilles Guest can take third here having won at this track in the past.
