Baltic King colt who cost 30,000euros as a 2yo. Made a belated debut at Redcar last month when he was sent off at 33-1 and could finish only eighth of 11. Can do better in time, but best watched for now.

Has started at 50-1 and 100-1 on his two starts and has yet to beat a rival. No evidence to suggest he will be up to matching strides with the best of these.

Promise in four starts on the AW, not beaten far in any of them. He makes his turf debut and, given his top trainer's good record at this track, he is entitled to plenty of respect.

Godolphin cast-off, who changed hands for £10,000 at the turn of the year. He is a half-brother to three winners including the very useful Fireglow, and is best watched on debut.

Still a maiden after six starts, but has run some decent races in defeat and returned from a gelding operation to run a good second of four at Goodwood. Strong chance for his in-form stable.

Has shown promise on two starts as a juvenile and the same at three after being gelded during the winter. Headed close home when third at Ripon last time, but that was over a furlong further and the shorter trip here may be more suitable. Cheekpieces applied for the first time.

Son of Shamardal who cost 550,000gns as yearling and is a half-brother to the talented Solidarity and Brave Leader. Showed plenty of promise when runner-up over C&D on his debut in May and, with improvement on the cards, looks the one to beat.

Forecasts

Tribal Conquest (7/4), Mathix (2/1), El Cap (4/1), Envisaging (4/1), Miss Goldsmith (14/1), Ember's Glow (100/1), Simmo's Partytrick (100/1), Canizay (200/1)

Verdict

Some powerful Newmarket yards send runners north for this maiden and it would be no surprise to see El Cap, Mathix or Envisaging prevail. However, the one with the most scope for improvement is TRIBAL CONQUEST, who shaped well over C&D on debut and is expected to come on for the run. The rest look to have plenty on their plate.
  1. Tribal Conquest
  2. Envisaging
  3. Mathix
