Done well for this trainer so far, winning on his first two starts for the yard on the Tapeta at Newcastle (5F), and regaining the thread at Doncaster over this trip latest (staying on fourth of 15) after taking his time to find his stride from the stalls. Jury remains out as to how he'll handle softer ground and needs to break on better terms.

Twice a runner up at this track in July 2016 on soft ground (5F and 6F), and very lightly raced since with just the one start coming at Ripon in April 2017. Clearly capable from this mark, and plenty of reasons to expect a strong showing with that seasonal debut under his belt.

A four time winner at or around 6F for previous trainers William Muir and Marco Botti, but generally appears stronger on synthetics. Joined this yard for 10,000 gns in May, but finished last of eight on stable debut over this trip at Catterick last Friday.

Handles cut, and likes to dictate matters, but her explosive early speed has seen her campaigned almost exclusively over 5F during her career. Stepped up in trip to 6F for the first time at Newcastle latest and it didn't appear to suit when readily held by the in-foal winner Love Island and the exposed Fredricka.

Versatile between 5F and 6F and his winning form tells us that he handles give in the ground. Hasn't won since July 2015 (for David O'Meara), but fairly well handicapped as a result and has ran a couple of fair races for his new trainer in 2017, most notably when beaten just 1L by Casterbridge at Leicester last week (5F good to soft).

Yet to race for this yard having been taken out of a planned engagement at Catterick on Friday, but the stable have a proven track record with new recruits. Not won since last July, but that success came here on soft ground (5F), and the gelding races from a 1lb lower mark today. Has won twice over this trip earlier in his career.

Generally more consistent on the AW than turf and has done okay on the Tapeta at Newcastle over the winter months, winning over 7F at Gosforth Park in October 2016. Better treated on turf (rated 72), and a chance at his best from this kind of mark based upon some fair performances on grass during June and July 2016.

Forecasts

Verdict

A tight handicap, but RANTAN looks interesting with the benefit of a Ripon seasonal reappearance under his belt. He was twice a runner up at this track during July 2016 on soft ground and has been very lightly raced since. He hails from a shrewd yard, and with conditions to suit, there might just be a little more to come despite an elevated enough handicap mark of 82. Adam's Ale is another course winner who should be noted for market support on debut for Marjorie Fife, whilst Amood can't be discounted on the best of his form from the summer of 2016, and Signore Piccolo has run well in both starts for David Loughnane.
