Remains a maiden after 15 starts, though has twice been within ¾L of a win, including penultimate start at Ayr (1m5f, good to firm). Stamina perhaps stretched over extended 2m at York since, this drop in trip looks the right move.

Ran his best race to date at his course over similar trip 28 days ago when 1L third of nine on handicap debut, raised 2lb on the strength of that effort, certainly doesn't take him out of the picture.

This lightly-raced gelding returned from an absence of 971 days to score over 1m5f on the AW at Chelmsford last month, doing so impressively. Has been given a nice break after that run and has some decent prior efforts on turf. Should be involved now having been raised 4lb.

Well beaten on all three starts since joining this yard from Ireland. Handicap mark is slipping as a result and she steps up in trip (twice won over 1m4f on turf) now reverting from the AW scene. One to note.

Winner over 1m6f at Salisbury (good) last August and best run since came when beaten 2L into fifth at Nottingham over the same trip on good ground in October. Just plugging on last month at Newbury to be 4¼L fifth of 14 over 1m4f (soft) and needs to bounce back.

Some promise over 1m4f here in April in an apprentice contest but since thrown in another mediocre effort at Goodwood (1m6f, good to firm, good in places) and yet to win on turf. Attempts to strike late and will need things falling his way.

Sole Flat success was over extended 2m at Beverley in 2013 (good to firm) from 1lb higher, though won a soft ground hurdle (2m4f) last year. Returns to the track after 15 months off and 21 months since her last Flat run, so has fitness to prove. Ability is there if straight enough and market check advised.

Lightly-raced filly ended last term with a decent runner-up finish at Redcar (1m6f, soft, good in places) on handicap debut. Winner hasn't exactly boosted that form since but she's just 1lb higher now and could have more to give this season.

Won over 2m at Chepstow in May 2016 but has been toiling since, including last time out when tackling that same contest. Drops in distance here but makes little appeal on recent efforts.

Eight-race maiden was well held over 1m6f on Lingfield's AW last month on seasonal bow, faces a stiff task now reverting to turf on current terms and is due some relief from the assessor.

Verdict

A modest bunch but the veteran HALLSTATT might be the one to rely on for this contest. He's run three very fine races off this mark so far this year, including a win on the AW at Wolverhampton and a good effort last time at Nottingham when beaten just 1L. Any rain would be a concern for his chances. Mishko defied a long absence to win at Chelmsford on the AW last time out, doing so with a bit in hand. He's been upped 4lb but may well have a bit more to say for himself and is a viable alternative. Waiting For Ritchie ran very well here last month on handicap bow and can build on that while Melanna and Wordiness might appeal as two of the more likely types should the surface deteriorate any.
