C&D winner who hasn't been showing his best form but is benefiting from a rapidly reducing handicap mark, and should soon be at the stage where he finds races such as this within his grasp.
Will appreciate this step up in trip having been soundly beaten over shorter at Southwell last time, but hasn't won since December 2014 and doesn't tend to look most comfortable on this surface.
Ran a fine race to finish second to The Dukkerer over C&D last time out and though he is up 4lb for that, it was probably a career best and intriguing to see if can build on it. Of particular interest if The Dukkerer runs well in the first division of this race (16:20).
Makes his handicap debut here having run moderately in three maidens, all this course and one of them over C&D. Opening mark doesn't seem overly high, but best watched in this race all the same.
Steps down in trip having gone close at Wetherby last time (1m2f, good). Also holds form on Tapeta, including over this C&D, so should be right there in first time cheek piece off a career-low mark.
Dual course scorer, but tends to run his best races over longer trips than this (both at this track and at others), and must contend with his higher all-weather mark, though he does have the benefit of one of the best jockeys on a synthetic surface.
Well beaten on his first start for over two years on his most recent racecourse appearance, and steps down markedly in trip now with cheek pieces applied. Seems an unlikely winner of this contest.

Makhfar (11/4), Sakhalin Star (7/2), Life Of Luxury (7/2), Sooqaan (11/2), Cahar Fad (6/1), West Leake (6/1), The Firm (11/1), Blue Valentino (33/1), Freight Train (66/1)
The one who appeals most is SAKHALIN STAR, who steps down in trip today having run with credit at Wetherby last time out. This distance should suit him even better, and with his good form on a synthetic surface (including over C&D), he can capitalise on a career-low mark. He faces competition in the form of Makhfar, who will look even stronger if the form of his last race is boosted by The Dukkerer in Division I of this race, while The Firm may just about be on a workable mark by now and should be winning races again soon.
