Taken a long while to get back down to an attractive mark after winning at Worcester in July 2016, and probably not suited by the longer trip at Southwell latest. A winner at Fakenham in the past so handles idiosyncratic tracks and holds a chance if effective at this venue.
Sedgefield specialist and taken out of a race there since winning from a 5lb lower mark earlier this month (beat Vodka Wells). The quicker the ground dries out the better for his chance after the weekend deluge.
Has looked to be on the way back to form on his latest two starts and nothing wrong with his recent second to No Such Number (a winner again since). This drop in trip probably not ideal and denied a chance to race over further on Saturday due to the abandonment, but in good shape so high on the short-list.
Far from a prolific winner (2 from 69), but did okay on his return from a break last month when second to Troufion over 2m3f at Huntingdon. That was just his second ever start over fences, and he races from the same mark today, having been third at this track over hurdles from a 6lb higher mark in August 2016.
Long in the tooth, but no denying he loves the uniqueness of the Cartmel landscape. A winner of 17 races during his career, he needs to show more than he has done in 2017 so far, and later in summer might be the time to catch him right.
Stablemate of Noble Call, but yet to win a race since leaving the care of Mick Channon. Falling sharply in the weights, but his last two starts over fences have in truth been stinkers, so little reason to expect improvement today.
Remains a maiden after 19 attempts, and recent form figures of PFP hardly generate confidence. Needs to return to his Sedgefield form from Boxing Day (second to Attimo) to figure.
Forecasts
Pekanheim (9/4), Boss Des Mottes (3/1), Endeavor (9/2), Muwalla (7/1), Alchimix (8/1), Noble Call (9/1), Needless Shouting (16/1)
Probably not the ideal trip for PEKANHEIM (2m4f is his optimum), but he's versatile enough to be effective over this shorter distance, and we've seen twice at Hexham lately that he is on fairly good terms with himself. This race won't take a great deal of winning, and this once rather quirky sort looks more reliable than most of the others nowadays, with the principal danger likely to come from the attractively handicapped Boss Des Mottes.
- Pekanheim
- Boss Des Mottes
- Noble Call
