Has won both his races since joining his current yard, including over longer at this course last time. He is 11lb higher than for the first of those wins, so this is much tougher, but he has to be a player in his rich vein of fom.
Experienced and consistent campaigner, but does not win too often and his last turf success was over C&D in June, 2015. Ran a sound enough race on the AW last time, but may need to drop a few pounds before getting his head back in front.
Had been campaigning exclusively on the AW since the turn of the year before finishing fourth of seven behind Sebastian's Wish last time. Gets a 9lb pull for a beating of just over 4L so has to enter calculations.
Was kept on the go at AW tracks during the winter, but switched back to turf at Catterick last time when he ran a solid race to be third of eight. Runs off the same mark here, so he may need a little more respite from the handicapper.
Campaigned mainly on the AW and over hurdles, but returns to grass off a 1lb higher mark than when last successful on that surface in September, 2015. Won at Wolverhampton two starts ago and is in good heart at present.
In front of Tred Softly when second at Catterick a couple of outings ago and is 1lb worse off for just over a length's superiority. Slowly away when fourth at Wetherby over shorter last time and the return to this trip should suit.
Only win came at Hamilton in September, 2015. Not much encouragement in his last two starts at that track and his last outing's first-time visor is dispensed with. Hard to get excited about.
Ended a long, losing sequence at Wetherby last time when he had Fillydelphia back in fourth. The pair reoppose on the same terms and, strictly on the book, the form should be confirmed. Sound chance.
Bounced back to form at Wetherby last time when making virtually all over two furlongs less. A 3lb rise is not prohibitive, but she has to prove she stays the extra distance.
Had a spell over hurdles last spring, and has returned to the Flat for his last two starts, including when sixth of seven to Sebastian's Wish on his latest run. Needs to show more before being considered.
Forecasts
Sebastian's Wish (5/2), Mr Sundowner (9/2), Mrs Biggs (6/1), Surround Sound (7/1), Star Ascending (8/1), Tred Softly (10/1), Thorntoun Care (10/1), Celtic Power (20/1), Fillydelphia (28/1), Jebulani (80/1)
The in-form Sebastian's Wish is the obvious starting point and he is much respected despite his rise up the weights. However, he is going to start at fairly short odds for the difficulty of his task and Thorntoun Care and STAR ASCENDING are likely to represent better value. The former has a big weight pull for a recent beating and has clear prospects of turning the tables, while the latter has been in good form on the AW and is close to his last winning mark on turf. Mrs Biggs and Mr Sundowner are also considered in an open contest.
- Star Ascending
- Thorntoun Care
- Sebastian's Wish
