A three time winner on the AW (50% strike rate), but yet to score in nine attempts on turf. No concerns with regards this trip, and likely to be suited by this track on the evidence of his latest narrowly beaten fourth at Chester (6f). However, finished behind Juan Horsepower on penultimate start at Bath.

Stayed on strongly to take a 5F Class 3 nursery at York in July 2016 by a head. Competed in good company in the main since, seeking some 'black type' (Newbury, Chester and Chantilly x2). Not disgraced at Thirsk latest after meeting trouble in the run and this looks more realistic.

C&D winner (May 2016), and has also won twice since at Ripon and Haydock (both over 5f). Set tough tasks in better company the past twice and this is more realistic, so better expected.

Continues to improve and has won two of his last three starts at Lingfield (Polytrack) and Bath (Firm). Form closely aligned with Juan Horsepower and Merry Banter following a rise in the weights. More exposed than most, but continues to go from strength to strength.

Arzaakb23

9/2
Consistently placed over the winter months and deservedly off the mark at Southwell last month in a very winnable maiden (4/7f). Mixed it in a Conditions event on AW Finals Day at Lingfield to no avail before a sound second behind an improving horse dropped back into handicap company latest. Tough, but others a fraction less exposed.

Scuzeme33
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: P Makin| T: T D Barron| OR:  80| D
8/1
Fulfilled his stables expectations when sluicing up in a Newcastle maiden in January (first run as a gelding), and performed with credit on handicap debut at Nottingham in April when 4½L second to Justanotherbottle. Not so good at Thirsk latest (Tahoo fourth), but still lightly raced and on a reasonable mark (80).

The Nazca Lines230
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-12| J: Jason Hart| T: J & S Quinn| OR:  76| D
11/1
5f winner at Ripon in July 2016, but has struggled to make the frame since from fairly similar marks in nurseries. That said, his 6f York fourth in October 2016 to Comedy School has been well franked by the runner up Battered, so could go well on his seasonal return now gelded.

Blue Suede33
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-12| J: P Hanagan| T: R A Fahey| OR:  76| D
11/2
Has some decent juvenile form to her name, not least her November Newcastle second to Dubai One (5f), but held on both of her outings this term and finished behind the likes of Scuzeme and Tahoo in both of those races. Well suited by a fast surface.

Forecasts

Poet's Society (3/1), Arzaak (9/2), Juan Horsepower (5/1), Blue Suede (11/2), Scuzeme (8/1), The Nazca Lines (11/1), Tahoo (11/1), Merry Banter (12/1)

Verdict

A very competitive sprint, and in truth, a case of some sorts could be argued for the majority of the runners. Therefore, the need to look for a horse with potential for further improvement is essential. The Karl Burke trained filly TAHOO fits the bill. She has been very highly tried since winning at York in July 2016, but has been far from disgraced in pattern company. She has dropped to a mark of 84, which is just 3lb higher than her winning mark from York and she would appear set to run a mighty race after meeting trouble in running at Thirsk last month.
  1. Tahoo
  2. Merry Banter
  3. Juan Horsepower
