Cost £27,000 and is a half-sister to a couple of winning sprinters from France. As her dam is a half-sister to 2010 Wokingham winner Laddies Poker Two, the filly ticks all the right boxes as far as pedigree is concerned. Also notable that her trainer has sent out the winner of this race three times in the last ten years. Strong market support is highly likely but she also has plenty of options for later in the campaign if she is slow to come to hand first time on the racecourse.

By a dual winner at the Breeders Cup and out of a Green Desert mare, so has an esteemed pedigree - she should be up to winning races before too long if she possesses even a hint of that ability. Likely that a mile will suit her in due course but is well drawn to gain handy position if fully primed. Yard isn't really noted for first time out winners but not unheard of (they won the 2013 renewal) so worth bearing in mind if she is supported in the betting.

Both her sire and her dam were speedy individuals, so bred to appreciate a sprint distances. Stable has been quiet and she more than likely that she will be better for the experience.

Cost €8,000 and bred to cope with at least 1m in time. Yard is respected and its juvenile has been acquitting themselves well this term. Another that will progress with time - possibly better when also upped in trip.
A 24,000 gns purchase, this daughter of the speedy Paco Boy completes the nap-hand for Richard Fahey; but safe to say, with a 3lb claimer booked, she may be down the pecking order and have to settle for a minor role on her racecourse bow.

By Derby winner Pour Moi out of a Namid mare, she appeals as a long-term prospect on paper. Fairly well drawn but others make a tad more appeal at this stage.

Shouldn't have any issues with the trip but her yard is struggling for winners in this sector and easy to suspect that she will be better for the run.

Her dam was placed at Group level over 5f and, allowing for the fact that she was a €50,000 purchase as a yearling, expectations will no doubt be high for a quick return. Her yard won this in 2013 (that filly came out of an adjacent stall), so likely plenty of groundwork has been done at home. Has to be placed high on the shortlist.

Possesses likeable breeding and was retained for £30,000 at the sales. Yard not yet firing on all cylinder but did win a Listed race at York with a 3-y-o earlier in the week. Will be interesting to note if that inspires any confidence in this filly.

Bred to appreciate a little further but is the only runner in the field with previous experience and is well berthed in the stalls to put that to good use. Yard always to be feared with their raids on Yorkshire prize-money. Another to bear in mind.

Breeding lacks the sparkle held by some of the others and she may need less precocious company to be seen at her best.

Verdict

Betting in races of this nature can make your hair go 'Curly', as most of these will undoubtedly be better for the experience. Richard Fahey has done his bit to make the puzzle a bit more difficult by sending out three with a live chance - Ajwan just edges the nomination ahead of Foxxy Brown as the leading hope from his yard. However, Michael Dodds also knows what it takes to win this race and with his contender, MECCA'S MINSTREL, being one of the more expensive purchases in the line up, Dodds gets the nod as the man to follow. Support for Validator would also be dangerous to ignore but this is a tough race and she doesn't appeal as a stand-out at short odds.
  1. Mecca's Minstrel
  2. Ajwan
  3. Validator
