Has been progressing nicely over this trip in recent times on the AW and he was effective on slower ground when last seen on turf. Useful from the front and should give another good account with fitness on his side from his AW runs.

Habitual slow starter who has been disappointing in the large since his maiden win at Dundalk. Handicap mark looks on the stiff side and others preferred.

Largely out of form since the end of 2015 and virtually tailed off on his latest two starts. The return to soft ground unlikely to be enough to spark a revival.

13lb lower than his latest win and that came in 2015 here over a slightly shorter trip. His best efforts have come at this course and produced a smart effort on his reappearance at Doncastrer. Each-way claims for a trainer who does well here.

Took advantage of his lenient Flat rating with back to back wins at Southwell in March. Not certain to enjoy the return to turf on soft ground though and has a career high Flat mark to deal with.

Didn't show much on debut for this yard last time but entitled to have needed that run and should do better here with Moore in the saddle. Needs to prove he can be as effective over this trip as the mile.

Well backed on several starts last season but only got on the scoreboard once and a race of this depth looks a little beyond him, especially when taking into account both his starts this season.

Hit and miss performer but he can be effective when held up off a strong pace and he's proven on a galloping track. 3lb claiming jockey is amongst the best apprentices around and trainer enjoys his winners here. Plenty to like.

Consistent sort but quite possibly better suited to AW than turf and soft ground unlikely to be his bag. On a fair mark if he takes to it.

Has yet to win on turf, but seemed to produce an improved display when third of 13 in a Catterick handicap last month. Failed to back that up at Hamilton last time and not won since 2015 so others preferred.

Scored on debut for this yard in an apprentice handicap but shown nothing since and shaped as if amiss on his last couple of starts. Opposable on return from an absence.

Inconsistent sort and a little unproven on soft ground. Needs his 7lb claimer to be worth every ounce of that allowance if he's to take a hand here.

Looks progressive and very much capable of scoring from this mark. A little unproven on soft ground but has to be a leading contender with further progress likely.

Could be more to come over this sort of trip and only narrowly denied from a 1lb higher mark last time. Won on her seasonal reappearance last year and trainer/jockey demand respect at this course.

Sole success was on soft ground at Haydock last year (1m2½f) from 2lb lower. Since gelded and left Richard Hannon for this yard, for whom he showed nothing on his Beverley debut last month. Steps up in trip for the first time here and not sure that looks ideal on pedigree, so perhaps best watched this time in first-time blinkers.

Just two wins from 26 starts and well beaten when last seen at Epsom. Looks opposable on reappearance and he can often miss the break.

Verdict

ST MALO could prove to be a blot on the handicap in the finale. The gelding couldn’t have won his maiden at Newcastle any easier and he would appear to have been let in lightly by the handicapper. With the yard in fine form and jockey Andrea Atzeni holding an excellent record at this course, he looks the most likely winner. Chancery goes well around here and David O’Meara’s yard are another who do well on the Knavesmire while Island Flame is unexposed over this trip.
