Makes a belated debut at the age of four and is a half-brother to three winners, including useful sprinter Bajan Bear. Has clearly been a late developer and will probably need this.

Only one placed effort in 14 starts. A hood is fitted for the first time and it will need to have a dramatic effect.

Won a bumper for this trainer/jockey combination at Musselburgh in November and tried in better company in subsequent starts. Switched to the Flat at Redcar last month, he was a never-nearer sixth of 12, suggesting he needs a longer trip than this,

Not much encouragement on breeding, his one run in a Musselburgh bumper in March saw him finish 11th of 12. Drops back in trip and will probably need more time to develop.

Half-brother to four-times Flat winner Rhagori, this 28,000 guineas purchase was only 10th of 12 in a mile maiden at Redcar last month. Should do better in time, but does not appeal as one of the more likely contenders.

Sea The Stars gelding out of a Rock Of Gibraltar mare, he raced keenly when fourth of 10 on his debut over this trip at Redcar last month. He is entitled to improve for that run and can make a bold show.
Bought for 30,000 guineas as a two-year-old. Only the third runner in this country for his sire, who finished third in the Kentucky Derby. Half-brother to a dirt winner in the US , he showed only limited promise on debut at Southwell in March. Interesting to see how he fares on turf.

Cost €44,000 and is from the first crop of Born To Sea out of a dam who has produced a winner who was effective from 7f-1m. Shaped with promise when third of 12 on debut at Redcar last month, with Senatus and Acid Test behind, and is a major player with improvement anticipated.

In the frame twice as a juvenile, he was gelded during the winter and did not show a great deal on his reappearance after starting slowly at Musselburgh. Too soon to be writing him off, although he may fare better in handicaps.

Half-sister to several winners including smart 6f performer Shanghai Glory and winner up to 1m2f Choose Me. Too green to do herself justice behind a promising sort at Catterick on debut and likely to do much better in due course.

First foal of a Manduro mare, she kept on well to be third over 2f further at Dundalk on debut. She did not shape as though a drop in trip was needed, but has a positive jockey booking and is a player in this company.

Forecasts

Mellor Brook (6/4), What Wonders Weave (10/3), Somnambulist (7/2), Senatus (11/1), El Nino Sea (12/1), Hamster Jam (16/1), Last Chance Paddy (33/1), Bajan Beacon (33/1), Acid Test (66/1), Sindarin (80/1), Diamond Avalanche (100/1)

Verdict

Quite a few of these will need time to develop, but MELLOR BROOK has already shown a reasonable level of form and, with improvement on the cards, can win at the second time of asking. Irish raider What Wonders Weave is respected, along with El Nino Sea, Hamster Jam and Somnambulist.

  3. El Nino Sea
