Speedy individual that has paid his way over the years. Still 4lb above his last winning mark though and usually needs a couple of runs to put him on the right path. Ninth in this last year needs to be bettered considerably.
Starts the campaign needing to emulate his personal bes; last on seasonal debut didn't bode well and may need to shake off a few more pounds in the handicap before he can get competitive again.
Kept ticking over on the AW but reverts to his favoured turf on the back of a couple sound performances. But is still 8lb higher than his last winning mark and faces no easy task.
Bits and pieces of form suggest that he can take a hand but has a bit to find with Excessable after their recent encounter and hard to see the form being reversed.
Closely matched with First Bombardment but has the worst of the draw to contend with and work to do in his bid to reverse the form. Also disconcerting that he is 7lb higher than his last winning mark.
Poor efforts since his return to action but should strip fitter and cannot be ruled out when the pick of his form is taken into account. has been placed at this course twice from five previous visits - place claims again if on song.
Another with recent form that ties in with a few of these but has been off the boil in two recent spins and is hard to fancy just for the time being.
From a yard which has won the last two renewals of this race and had a few of these in behind when he finished third at Newcastle last month. That was his first start back after being gelded and, now that he has proved his well being, he may be ideally placed to expand on his trainer's record in the race.
Ran consistently well last season but was held behind Orient Class when last seen out and has bit to do if he is going to reverse that form. However, he likes this course and, with a skilful claimer taking 3lb off his back, he cannot confidently be ruled out; especially as he has fared well with the draw and the ground should be to his liking.
Forecasts
Excessable (7/2), Fruit Salad (7/2), First Bombardment (13/2), Musharrif (7/1), Seamster (8/1), Kibaar (8/1), Orient Class (10/1), Pea Shooter (11/1), Singeur (14/1)
Many of these are old rivals and while Excessable is an interesting candidate in his bid to give trainer Tim Easterby his third consecutive winner of this race, FRUIT SALAD appeals as a punter's choice to round off the card on nigh note. The gelding is well drawn, likes the course and his rider's 3lb claim will be a valuable asset in what is likely to be a tight little handicap. Orient Class and Pea Shooter are a couple of others that can play a part if they run anywhere near their best.
- Fruit Salad
- Excessable
- Pea Shooter
