As low in the weights as he'd ever been since his juvenile days when winning on the AW at Newcastle over 7f on his penultimate start and followed up that run with another solid performance. Also on the AW this time at Lingfield the race didn't pan out quite as well this time but he comes back on turf in good form and a 1lb below his last winning mark on this surface.

Useful juvenile who was placed in two Group 2 events over 6f but then obviously had problems and missed his three-year-old season. Made his handicap debut last time out (wore hood for the first time) at Kempton Park over 6f (started favourite) but after blowing the start he was always playing catch up. Not knocked about in the end he runs off the same mark here and could take a hand from a low draw.

Won first time out last season showing improved form over 6f and ran creditably on most occasions after that often looking better than the bare result. Ran poorly on her last start of the season and faces a difficult draw here but still looks capable of winning off this mark.

Finished in front of Suzi's Connoisseur last time out when running a very solid race on the AW at Lingfield (stuck out wide all the way) but confirming he's come back in good form. Showed his best form at the end of last year when winning at Chelmsford (7f) and looks as though he can win off this mark although he does have a nightmare draw to overcome here and his last turf win came back in 2015.

Got on a real roll last year winning four times all in handicaps (usually positively ridden) with the last win coming off a mark of 85. Looked as he needed the run on his seasonal comeback at Musselburgh (started slowly) but that should have sharpened him up and he's well drawn to attack here from the lowest stall back in blinkers (last win came in blinkers).

Enjoyed his trips to Catterick last year where he won on his handicap debut over 5f and later added two wins (back-to-back) over 7f off much higher marks. Never quite showed his best away from the Yorkshire track and was outclassed on his last in a conditions race at the end of 2016. Now 9lb above his last handicap win, away from Catterick and facing a difficult draw.

Winner of this race in 2015 off a 3lb lower mark he's been handed the widest stall of all and that won't make life easy. He actually followed up that win with another over C&D off a mark of 91 but he's not won since then as the handicapper tightened his grip. His mark is now starting to fall and that gives him a chance over a C&D he runs well.

Has a decent wins-to-runs ratio with all her victories coming at Lingfield the last three on the AW. Looks to have raised her game this winter and backed up her last handicap win with a good run in a conditions race over 7f although she was probably flattered by the result. 5lb higher than her last handicap win but comes here fit and hard to rule out.

A maiden winner on his debut over 6f as a juvenile has failed to win in 16 subsequent starts. He's gradually been edging his way back down the handicap and is now down to a career low mark but he ended the season poorly and is probably best watched here coming off an absence.

Recorded two wins last year both over 6f on the AW the latest coming off a mark of 79. Consistent since then without winning as proved by his two efforts so far this year with the latest at Windsor looking unlucky (failed to get run of race and finished full of running) over 6f. Now up in trip (has tried 7f twice before) and looks as though he'll stay and be competitive off a mark of 87.

A short priced favourite when winning his maiden (7f) and following handicap debut over a mile at Haydock off a mark that looked lenient he remains a horse of potential. The handicapper has actually dropped him a 1lb from his last outing when he wasn't suited by the track at Newmarket and still looked green. No doubt that he still has potential if he handles the twist and turns here.

Showed some very consistent form after winning over 6f last year in July going 33323 in five subsequent starts. Looked to have come back better than ever when winning on his seasonal reappearance at Brighton (found plenty for pressure) over 7f off a mark of 82. Now 4lb higher for that win and in a higher grade and that means he'll have to improve again.

Caught the eye on a couple of occasions last year in handicaps towards the start of the year but he gradually lost his momentum until finally taking advantage of a much reduced mark to record his first GB win. That win over a mile came in eyeshields (has worn other headgear) and looked to help his focus although he can still flatter to deceive and did just that at Bath on his penultimate outing.

Closely matched on form with The Warrior and has experienced a good run of form on the AW since the turn of the year with three wins all coming over a mile. Mark has now risen to 85 but showed that he could cope with that when third last time out after going freely and will always be best off a strong gallop.

Runs from 2lb out of the handicap here but was a four-time winner last year and looked to run to near his best when third on his seasonal return. May well have paid for forcing a strong gallop last time out and will do well to dominate this field although he is well berthed to do so.

Verdict

A really strong handicap where the draw could play a part and those drawn high might well have a tough task and will need some luck in-running. Zwayyan has the look of a real improver and it won’t be a surprise to see him run well here and in big-field handicaps later in the year. Of the others drawn in the lower part of the field it may well be LIGHTENING CHARLIE that has the best chance and he was very unlucky last time out and he should stay this 7f. Eltezam is the wild card based on his juvenile form and with a level start he is interesting and could be well-in off a mark of 97. Fiftyshadeofgrey will do well to repeat his 2015 victory in this from stall 16 and others that could be hampered by a wide draw but have a strong chance on form would include Charles Molson and Gossiping.

  2. Eltezam
  3. Zwayyan
