The handicapper has had his measure on the AW since winning at Lingfield in March (1m), but he has remained in decent enough placed form. Remains a maiden on turf (five time winner on synthetics).

Produced a midfield finish on his handicap (and stable) debut at Windsor last month (over the extended mile), and has been dropped 3lb since. A half-brother to Enrol and Enact, but proved disappointing for Roger Varian as a three-year-old, so this trainer might have his work cut out to extract some improvement.

Taken out at Wolverhampton a few days ago after winning by 4L over C&D last week (beat Jonnie Skull). Races with a 6lb penalty and certain to make a bold bid to follow up with course record reading 3311.

Third on the AW at Wolverhampton from this mark last month (beaten two necks), and also declared to run here on Tuesday over a shorter trip (4.40pm). A trip of 1m has looked just beyond him in the past, so others are preferred.

15 time career winner in 140 starts and a previous C&D winner. In the veteran stage now and he's as honest as ever; could play a hand judged upon his Lingfield success in late March (Bloodsweatandtears third).

Forecasts

Stormbound (13/8), Wink Oliver (3/1), Shifting Star (7/2), Fire Tree (5/1), Air Of York (11/2), Tarseekh (8/1), Bloodsweatandtears (8/1), Glenalmond (12/1)

Verdict

A competitive affair and it might be a shade foolhardy to row in blindly with Stormbound under a 6lb penalty for last week's decisive C&D success. That said, there is no denying that his winning chance is a clear one. Bloodsweatandtears also thrives at this venue, and he can be expected to extract his revenge on his Lingfield conqueror Shifting Star with the excellent Josephine Gordon booked. However, the top-weighted FIRE TREE gets the vote. A drop to this trip looks ideal, and this 7f Irish winner for David Wachman has made a good start to life in England with Charlie Fellowes with his recent Nottingham fifth coming in a decent enough early season contest.
  1. Fire Tree
  2. Stormbound
  3. Bloodsweatandtears
