Twice a winner over this trip last year when in the care of Tom Dascombe, makes first start for this trainer now and is just 3lb above previous win mark so could have something to say for himself.

Finished second for the fifth time in six outings at Brighton over 1m2f last month, essentially didn't do much wrong there, front two having come clear. Has to happen sooner or later.

Promising runner-up finish on reappearance over a mile at Southwell on the AW last month bodes well for this handicap bow now going back up in distance.

Gained only career success to date at this track over slightly longer trip in weak maiden handicap last summer, weighted to have fair claims coming back to this venue if able to put best foot forward.

Veteran hasn't won since 2015 but ran most credible race for some time at Nottingham in 1m4f handicap 30 days ago. Replication of that run isn't assured but it would give him decent claims in this.

Has won ten of 63 career starts, including over this C&D in May 2014. Failed to beat a rival home at Pontefract last month over this trip and is hard to recommend on recent form.

Just three starts on AW so far, penultimate of which at Kempton would give him hope for this handicap/turf debut. Worth a glance in the betting.

Nouvelle Eret21

Isn't the most consistent performer. 5lb higher than when winning over this trip at Chelmsford in February but has since been a bit disappointing in two further AW runs. Dangerous to write him off completely.

Forecasts

Longside (10/3), Monsieur Glory (7/2), Ms Gillard (7/2), Vernatti (11/2), Fantasy Gladiator (13/2), Sehail (14/1), Nouvelle Ere (16/1), Silver Alliance (25/1)

Verdict

Longside won a weak contest here last summer and can be given some chance coming back as a result but he isn't consistent, a trait he shares with February's Chelmsford winner Nouvelle Ere who would have claims on a going day. In a race where many have questions over them, veteran Fantasy Gladiator may run well based on his Nottingham run recently but MS GILLARD has been chipping away at the door looking for a way in and she essentially didn't do much wrong at Brighton when second again recently. A replication of that effort might be enough and she wouldn't be winning out of turn. Handicap debutant Vernatti is also considered.
  1. Ms Gillard
  2. Fantasy Gladiator
  3. Vernatti
