Back down to a career low mark having shown little in his recent starts and tries Tapeta for the second time today having finished last of all on his first attempt at this surface. First time blinkers would need to make all the difference.
Has seemed regressive since last winning in March 2015, and hasn't managed to go close on any of his recent starts. Doubtful stayer last time out over much further and could do better now dropped in trip.
Won at Chelmsford two starts ago despite racing keenly and went close to doubling up at Nottingham last time out, losing by only a nose. Look to be improving fast and is entitled to have a big say here.
Returns to the track having been away since August, and with only three races to his name since the end of the 2015 Flat season. Has clearly had his problems, but has shown plenty of talent when he has raced and he can't be discounted here.
No win under either code since scoring over C&D in October 2015, in which time he's had a mediocre stint over hurdles. Plenty on his plate here and others make much more appeal.
Winner over 7f at Leicester in September, but that was in selling company, and she hasn't shown enough in handicaps to suggest that a race like this would be a realistic proposition for her.
0/11 in her career and though she races off her lowest mark yet she's shown little to suggest she's capable of getting off the mark in this company and is best watched here.
Won well over slightly further at Newcastle when last seen in November and is raised 6lb by the handicapper for that victory. Lightly-raced sort who could have more to offer, especially on Tapeta on the evidence of that win last time.
Would haven needed the run when blowing out over C&D three starts ago, and has put in much improved showings since. He may be vulnerable to a younger, improving type, of which there are several here, but he's certainly on a workable mark and has the potential to go close.
Forecasts
Scribner Creek (9/4), Melgate Melody (9/4), Playtothewhistle (11/2), Sublimation (15/2), Berkeley Vale (15/2), Know Your Name (14/1), Chelabella (20/1), Scruffy Mcguffy (25/1), Walking In Rhythm (33/1)
This could go to MELGATE MELODY, who seems to be improving and has already proven his liking for this surface with a victory at Newcastle when last seen in November. Provided he doesn't need the run on his first start of the year he could prove the best option off what looks to be a fair mark. Sublimation may have needed the run last time when disappointing over C&D, and should strip much fitter today, while Scruffy Mcguffy has clearly has his problems but also showed he does have plenty of ability with two victories last summer.
- Melgate Melody
- Sublimation
- Scruffy Mcguffy
