Improved throughout 2016 to bag three races including two at Newmarket. Last victory came off a 2lb lower mark and she must have an excellent chance here with top rider booked. Has gone well when fresh and has been well supported when scoring in the past. Ran fairly well (hampered in closing stages) on only run on this surface.
Has been in cracking form at Southwell during the winter. Yet to win here but has produced some good efforts in defeat. Whether he can win on this surface, when the weights demand a career best, is debatable.
Had a couple of subsequent winners behind when collecting at Newbury over 7f last season. Well beaten on his next two starts and has been gelded since. Placed on his only previous run on the AW. Up against fitter rivals and a watching brief is advised.
Favoured by the weights when landing a seller last time. This is more competitive and he has struggled from this mark recently.
Continues to disappoint from marks which look increasingly attractive. His last three victories have been over C&D but he has only beaten one rival home on each of last two visits. Blinkers are tried for the first time.
Beat a disappointing sort in a weak maiden here before showing better form at Newcastle (winner and fourth won since). Failed to act on the surface at Southwell last time but a reproduction of that Newcastle effort might be good enough.
Winner of a couple of races here and at Haydock last season. Handicapper appears to have his measure for now and this trip looks on the sharp side.
Yet to recapture the form which brought back to back successes over 1m2f at Chelmsford last year. Having stepped up to 1m4f last time, when tailed off last, connections try him over a trip which is short of his best. Visor tried last time is removed. Hard to fancy at present.
Forecasts
Calvados Spirit (5/2), Shah Of Armaan (9/2), Jack Of Diamonds (6/1), Mr Red Clubs (13/2), Red Tea (13/2), Captain Revelation (7/1), Rock Song (9/1), Freud (25/1)
SHAH OF ARMAAN has produced three efforts on this surface that suggest he can take advantage of a race where his rivals either need to produce career bests or rediscover old form. He was fourth in a maiden here in November behind two subsequent winners and then won over C&D in January where he beat another future winner. The form of his Newcastle race where he finished third has worked out well. All three of those efforts suggest he could be on the right side of the handicapper. Kevin Ryan's charge did finish last on his most recent start after missing the break and appearing unsuited to the slower surface, a run which is best ignored. Red Tea is an obvious danger having having enjoyed a fruitful campaign in 2016 which yielded three victories. She remains just 2lb above her last winning mark and the jockey booking signals intent. Captain Revelation has had a lucrative winter. The handicapper may have his measure for now but he arrives in better form than most in this lineup.
- Shah Of Armaan
- Red Tea
- Captain Revelation
