Took full advantage of an easing mark when scoring by a neck over C&D in early February, and not disgraced in a much stronger Class 2 contest over C&D on Valentines Day when sixth to Suzi's Connoisseur, but a shade below par last time, and this race might be informative as to whether or not he'd benefit from a short break.
Returns from an extended break having been off the track since finishing fourth at Chelmsford in July 2016 for a trainer with a 50% strike rate (2 from 4) on Tapeta at Newcastle. 4lb higher but dropped a furlong in trip since posting a solid second placed effort here at the Northumberland Plate Festival in June behind Pensax Boy.
Nearest at the finish over a mile at this track when third to Alexandrakollontai in early November 2016, but was a three time winner on turf (also over 1m) during the 2016 campaign. A drop to this shorter trip is a major concern, with his last 15 runs coming over 1m+.
Lincoln entrant who looks high enough in the weights at the moment, having not won for almost ten months (Catterick, May 2016). Has mixed racing over 6 to 7F on the AW this winter, and might also find a few of these rivals stronger on the stamina front.
Reliable sort at this track having won over both 7F and 1m from lower marks since December 2016. Did win for this rider last time from a 4lb lower mark, but generally runs his best races for David Nolan, but that winning form has been handsomely franked with the fourth placed Swift Emperor winning recently, so clearly a major player.
AW maiden (0 from 9) but arguably slightly better last time when fifth from this mark to War Department (never troubled leaders). Generally most effective over a mile on turf, and one to keep an eye on during April at Musselburgh.
Strapping sort, who boiled over when bombing out badly on his AW debut here over 6F last month. Steps up to this trip for only the second time in his career with various questions to be answered, but his trainer is likely to get the best from him with time and patience.
Formerly with Richard Hannon, and was a 6F maiden winner on his debut for this stable in November 2016, in what was possibly one of the weakest maidens run at this track on Tapeta to date. Had subsequently struggled in handicaps before an improved effort last time when fourth to Foolaad (6F), but needs to prove he's as effective over further.
Forecasts
Mutamid (5/2), Inaam (7/2), Tadaawol (11/2), Plucky Dip (6/1), Free Code (8/1), Lawyer (8/1), Shamaheart (12/1), Foresight (66/1)
Inaam is a tough customer, and his previous course success has been well franked by Swift Emperor, so he must go close despite a 4lb rise under Paul Hanagan. However, the returning MUTAMID is the interesting runner for infrequent visitor Ismail Mohammed, and a drop to this trip could be right up his street if ready to go following that break on the strength of his half length second over a mile to Pensax Boy on Gosforth Park Cup Night back in June.
- Mutamid
- Inaam
- Lawyer
