Winner over hurdles during the winter but on a run of 14 losses on the Flat. Yet to win in seven previous attempts on the AW. Handicapper showing signs of mercy so of interest with Champion Jockey booked to assist.
Winner over hurdles this winter but was turned over at short odds next time (1/4fav). Has not won on the Flat for almost two years and 0-8 on the AW. A visor is tried for the first time and rider more than capable on these quirky sorts.
Looked a tricky customer last time when easily out-battled by Sennockian Star. Needs to be produced at the last possible moment so has the right man on board with terms looking favourable.
C&D winner last month when proving too hardy for Rydan. Has thrived since and he looks the most straightforward option in this lineup but others may be slightly better handicapped.
Five time AW winner who is on a losing run of 11 races. Has been tried over a variety of trips including a below par effort over two miles last time. A strongly run race over this trip might be the answer and there are a couple in here capable of delivering that.
Was with John Gosden in 2016 for whom he showed some promise in maiden company. Runner-up in a weak race last time and that effort suggests his current mark is a few pounds too high.
Forecasts
Rydan (11/8), Sennockian Star (3/1), Blue Surf (9/2), Masterpaver (13/2), Fattsota (11/1), Lord Napier (20/1), Precision Five (50/1)
The mercurial Rydan has what it takes to win this if his capable rider can unleash his potential. He looked less than co-operative last time and may find Sennockian Star too resolute for him again. Mark Johnston's charge is a former Listed winner who has been rejuvenated this winter. Both though could find MASTERPAVER ready to snap a losing streak. He has lost nothing in defeat recently and his rider may be able to exploit the decent pace that he needs with Fattsota and Sennockian Star in the lineup.
1. Masterpaver
2. Sennockian Star
3. Rydan
