Well into the veteran stage now and no win since 2014, but still capable of the odd good run, as he showed when second to Carole's Destrier at Sandown two seasons ago. Hasn't shown anything in two starts this season and although he's taking a drop in grade here, others have more pressing claims.

Yet to win in nine chase starts, with his jumping sometimes less than fluent and has broken blood vessels in the past too, which has to be viewed as a negative here. Does stay well in bad ground, but looking for your first chase win in such a competitive event may be asking a bit too much.

Has run well in all three starts for this yard (formerly with Noel Williams) and showed he stays well when a plugging on fourth to Barton King at Bangor first time for the yard, form that's been franked since. Found the huge weight too much to carry at Towcester last week but still ran respectably, and obvious chance here.

Won easily at Uttoxeter last November but not so good since, although a close fifth in the Lincolnshire National at Market Rasen wasn't a bad effort. Pulled up on latest start though, yet to prove himself on heavy ground and yard have gone quiet again. Plenty on his plate.

Often looks hard work in his races, taking plenty of driving. Only the two chase starts to date, and fared better on the second of them, finishing sixth to Barton Gift at Bangor but never at any stage looking a threat to the principals. Will improve and handles heavy, but this may be biting off a bit more than he can chew at present.

Has twice run in cheekpieces but performed badly each time, so good to see them removed today. Goes well at Lingfield too, finishing second and first in two starts here. Stays well in bad ground and if forgiving last run (easy to do, was in the cheekpieces) then holds every chance.

Inconsistent, but did win one at Ffos Las in December despite looking less than enthusiastic at times. Nowhere near as good in two starts since, falling at Ffos Las and then never travelling and pulled up at Chepstow last time. Needs to prove he stays this trip too, and looks one of the less likely ones.

Two from two for Oliver Sherwood, a hurdle and then winning his first chase start at Uttoxeter, where he was legless at the finish but held on bravely. Has another half a mile to travel here and that effort last time might have taken something out of him, but is at least an improver and on that score alone has to be given plenty of respect.

Stays well in heavy ground, an obvious plus point here, and ran much better last time out when a close fourth in the Lincolnshire National at Market Rasen (winner has run well since). Can be a hard ride at times but looks on a fair mark and can't be completely discounted.

Tends to run all his best races form the front, and can sulk if not getting his own way, but was right back to form at Lingfield on his latest start, finding plenty for pressure when beating Themanfromminella by six lengths. Handicapper has raised him 9lb for that but it's more about whether he's in the same mood as last time rather than the weight.

Won a little handicap hurdle at Southwell last time, picking up the pieces in a race where the front runners went off far too quickly, but was well backed to do so anyway and did it nicely in the end. Back up in grade here and over fences too, so needs to do more, but that will at least have given his confidence a boost.

Best efforts these days, as they are, tend to come at Huntingdon and he does seem happier on right handed tracks in general these days. Usually wins one a year, in January, but not this season, and this simply looks too hard a task.

Forecasts

Krackatoa King (7/2), Onderun (9/2), Delgany Demon (7/1), Finish The Story (7/1), Amberjam (7/1), Coolking (8/1), Battle Dust (9/1), Summery Justice (16/1), Armedanddangerous (18/1), Arbeo (20/1), Cheat The Cheater (25/1), Walk On Al (25/1), Grove Silver (28/1)

Verdict

This lot have been around the block a few times, and it might be the turn of KRACKATOA KING to come out on top today. The massive weight stopped him at Towcester last week but the relatively quick turnaround suggests he's come out of that race well. Onderun seems happier without headgear and back at a venue he goes well at, can get in the money. Coolking would hold a chance if he gets his own way up front, but the likes of Arbeo and Delgany Demon may thwart those plans, so Armedanddangerous is taken to fill the places. Amberjam is improving but has more to do. 1. Krackatoa King 2. Onderun 3. Armedanddangerous
