Runs for the same owner as Charli Parcs, but not the same trainer, and this one has been racking up the wins so far. Won a bumper in his native France and stepped up on that form to win in Grade 2 company at Cheltenham. Has made further progress since then, winning a Grade 1 at Chepstow in a very impressive fashion and sets the standard at the top of this division. Heads the betting for the Triumph Hurdle.

Showed a little ability on his sole Flat start in France and won on his hurdling debut at Nantes in a newcomers race. Thrown in at the deep end here on his GB debut.

Fairly useful form over hurdles in juvenile events winning his last two and still looks to be improving, but will need to in order to get involved here. His jumping also needs brushing up a little and any mistakes will prove costly.

Stable took this in 2014 with Le Rocher who runs in the finale on the card. This one has had just the two outings so far and looked to improve on his debut effort at Newbury last time out when taking second behind Final Choice. Likely to progress further in the future but it will be a surprise if he can trouble the big two here.

Verdict

Great, though rather surprising, that JP McManus throws in two of his best juveniles against each other and it could well decide which way DEFI DU SEUIL and Charli Parcs go in the future. As things stand, both of these ex-French geldings are exciting, progressive prospects and it will be interesting to see if retained rider Barry Geraghty has made the right choice with Charli Parcs who appears favoured in the early betting exchanges. Defi Du Seuil has the edge in experience (around this track) and that may well prove decisive especially based on his demolition job last time out. In truth it will be a surprise if any of the other four can split the McManus duo despite them all having some reasonable form. The Alan King charge should be noted, though, as he often likes to run one of his better juveniles in this race and Rainbow Dreamer may pick up some prize money, although ultimately he may well be more of a Fred Winter type. 1. Defi Du Seuil 2. Charli Parcs 3. Rainbow Dreamer
