Strapping sort who looks a chaser in the making, though fair form in three 2m4f hurdles events, including off this mark on his handicap bow. Looks sure to relish this longer trip. Short-list material.
Much-improved since going handicapping, winning in decent fashion over 2m3f at Lingfield in November. Couldn't defy a 5lb rise at Chepstow subsequently, but no surprise if this longer trip induces improvement.
Showed plenty of ability in bumpers, culminating in a win at Warwick a year ago. Hasn't translated that promise to hurdles however, and blinkers now reached for after a lacklustre effort at Uttoxeter last month.
Won back-to-back hurdle events over this sort of trip at Uttoxeter and Market Rasen last summer, but undone by a subsequent rise in the weights. Clearly no margin for error off current mark.
Impressive winner off a 7lb lower mark over 2m4f at Huntingdon last March, but hasn't quite gone on from there, though may have needed the run on his return from a break at Fakenham latest. Represents an in-form yard and, providing his stamina lasts out, one of the more likelier types.
Point-to-point recruit who has been slow to come to hand, though glimmers of improvement shown when mid-vision at Uttoxeter last time. Step up in trip should help, though handicapper may still hold sway.
Makes a handicap debut today after struggling to make an impression in three novice events. Step up in trip needs to spark huge improvement.
Has hinted at ability in five runs over hurdles so far, most notably when an 11-lengths seventh at Taunton latest. Step up in trip may help him make a further impression.
Has won a race over hurdles off today's mark (November 2014), and has since gone in over fences at Huntingdon, though plenty of average efforts along the way. Dropped away tamely on first attempt at this trip at Lingfield last time.
Modest form over timber initially before failing to sparkle in a couple of efforts over fences, though more encouragement when returning to hurdles at Market Rasen last time., finishing a runner-up to What A Diva. Looks feasibly-treated on that evidence providing longer trip suits.
Some ability displayed, though often flattered to deceive in nine starts over hurdles between 2013-15. Has since cut little ice in a handful of point-to-points, and has a lengthy absence to overcome here.
Boasts four chase wins and a solitary hurdle success, though hasn't had his head in front since April 2011 and has shown nothing for current connections. Miles out of the handicap, easily passed over.
Forecasts
Greyed A (9/4), Gulshanigans (5/1), Viking Mistress (7/1), Mr Cardle (8/1), Just Joelliott (10/1), Champagne Chaser (10/1), Alberto's Dream (16/1), My King (16/1), Shambougg (16/1), Gonnabegood (33/1), Debt To Society (33/1), American World (100/1)
It will be interesting to see if first-time blinkers have the desired effect on Shambougg because Philip Hobbs' charge has the ability to win in this grade, but there could be more mileage in siding with GREYED A who is probably better than he showed in really testing conditions at Chepstow most recently. This longer trip is likely to work in his favour and he is just the sort Dr Richard Newland tends to excel with. A similar case could be made out for Gulshanigans, while it would be no surprise to see Champagne Chaser make his presence felt.
1. Greyed A
2. Gulshanigans
3. Champagne Chaser
