Turf winner for Richard Hannon and Mick Easterby (under this jockey at Thirsk in April 2015). Regressed since, but just two starts for this trainer off a long break. Third in a fair 6f claimer at Newcastle, and fifth here off this mark in a decent 7f handicap last week.
Left previous form behind when a sixth length winner (from a consistent Tapeta performer) here over 7f last month, but progress seemingly stunted by subsequent 13lbs rise. Drops back in trip in first time hood.
Five wins here all over shorter (including four for this regular rider), but not managed a success since March 2016. Handicapper slowly relenting, but whilst staying on of late (dwells) needs to prove stamina at this trip.
Two wins on turf at this trip, and a solid third over further at Newcastle last month. Surprisingly dropped a further 2lbs to an appealing mark of 70, and every chance if handling the switch to this surface for the first time.
Ex Irish and twice a winner over 5f including at Bellewstown in June. Inauspicious stable debut after three and a half month break at Lingfield last month, and steps up in trip here.
Has run well on four starts on the AW this winter without winning, going under by a short head at Wolverhampton (6f) last month. Raised a further 2lbs since, but sole start here was a winning one over a mile in May 2015.
A two time winner on Tapeta (both under David Nolan), including at this trip on his second start after an extended absence at Newcastle just before Christmas. A 4lbs rise seems fair, but has to prove versatility on this surface.
Not shown masses on two starts (both over further) since a return from a six month break. Tries this trip for the first time in his 18 race career in the combination of tounge strap and first time visor.
Kempton regular, and raised one pound for a staying on second placed effort over 7f last time. Very little experience at this trip, and yet to race on this surface during 44 race career so far.
Forecasts
Among Angels (7/2), Macho Mac (4/1), Dodgy Bob (5/1), Space War (5/1), Crosse Fire (11/2), Call Out Loud (10/1), Hold On Magnolia (12/1), Freddy With A Y (25/1), Nora Batt (66/1)
Probably the weaker division of this contest, and it's difficult to make a clear case for a selection. Macho Mac has paid the price for his six length success last month, but shouldn't be underestimated dropping back in trip in the first time hood. Space War has run well all winter and could be well suited by a return to this track, but a chance is taken on two time turf winner DODGY BOB who has slipped to an appealing mark, and is ridden by a fast emerging talent in the saddle.
1. Dodgy Bob
2. Space War
3. Macho Mac
