Silver Cambridgeshire winner in September, but dropped notably in trip last time to 7f and well supported in the market, keeping on strongly to score by two lengths. Raised 6lbs to 87, but should relish this step upto a mile (winner for Owen Burrows over trip at Yarmouth in June).
Progressed well since scoring off 70 at Newcastle in May (1m2f), also winning a Class 3 handicap (off 78) at this trip at York in July. Might have needed the race after a short break last time, but high enough off a mark of 85 on Fibresand debut.
Claimed after winning at this trip for John James Feane last week, and whilst unbeaten here (also won for Alan Bailey), this is stronger under a 6lb penalty.
Twice successful over C&D, but most recent success here was over 7f in early December. Held off higher marks since, including when third to Mithqaal.
C&D winner, but not since 2015, and although dwelling, is seemingly well held by Mithqaal on their running here last month.
Took some time to show his best, but twice placed in the early part of last year on turf before notching up a pair of victories (with cut) in June at Leicester and Newbury. 6lb higher than latest success with absence to be overcome on Fibresand debut.
Generally runs well here and a two time C&D winner. Possibly found latest run (the next day) coming too quickly after finishing second here over 7f on New Year's Day.
Ex Irish, and 1m maiden winner at the Curragh for Ger Lyons in August 2015. Lost his way for that trainer after a positive early start to 2016, and pulled hard before weakening on debut for this trainer at Wolverhampton last month.
Forecasts
Mithqaal (4/6), Captain Revelation (11/2), Briardale (8/1), Vivat Rex (10/1), Fort Jefferson (10/1), Boots And Spurs (14/1), Showboating (20/1), Restive (20/1)
MITHQAAL has already beaten a couple of these rivals, and has the look of a hugely progressive horse for Mick Appleby. Whilst a six pound rise is not to be underestimated, he has shown his class and adaptability in terms of both trip and surface. He will relish stepping back to a mile here, and is a most confident selection with perhaps only Fort Jefferson (untried on Fibresand) and Restive (second start for a shrewd trainer) something of unknowns potential wise here.
1. Mithqaal
2. Captain Revelation
3. Fort Jefferson
