Turned out quickly (under a six pound penalty) after success in a similar Class 4 event at Newcastle last Friday. Blinkered for the first time on that occasion, but had a fair level of form in Class 3 events prior. Certain to go close.
Successful at Lingfield on penultimate start. Made all on that occasion from a good draw (Flying Bear second, Shackled N Drawn fourth). Unable to handle the subsequent six pound rise thereafter, and dropped one pound here to a rating of 85.
Only two pounds higher than when winning a similar Class 4 Handicap at Newbury in August, but has struggled up in grade since. Entitled to come on for first run in three months when last of ten in a much stronger contest at Lingfield recently.
Course winner who often misses the break, and is therefore the type to be suited by a strongly run race. On a reasonable looking mark if able to break on level terms, but that's a big if based on recent evidence.
A winner of a Class 3 Handicap at Chelmsford back in April 2015 (off a similar absence) from seven starts on the All-Weather. However, possibly seems to reserve his best for the springtime with only subsequent success coming on turf at Epsom in April this year.
Two from two over this course and distance (lower grade contests; Class 5 and Class 6). With a moderate record on turf (0 from 4), clearly prepared for a winter campaign, but may need this race to become sharper.
Races prominently and has been running consistently well of late; including three starts back when narrowly denied here by subsequent Newcastle winner Dynamo Walt (Outrage fifth). Good chance on that showing, from a difficult draw.
Closely matched with Seve on most recent start, and looks dangerous from a fair mark. No surprise to see him reverse placings.
A seven time winner from 25 starts on the All-Weather, but below par for much of 2016 with sole win coming in claiming company.
Veteran at the age of ten, with last success coming at Ascot over three and a half years ago.
Forecasts
Outrage (5/1), Steelriver (5/1), Normal Equilibrium (6/1), Masamah (13/2), Calypso Choir (7/1), Sandfrankskipsgo (9/1), Miracle Garden (10/1), Seve (11/1), Flying Bear (12/1), Come On Dave (20/1)
A race in which the likely market principals, could have been gifted kinder draws. Calypso Choir has the edge on OUTRAGE based upon their November Course and Distance encounter, but Daniel Kubler's gelding improved for the application of blinkers at Newcastle last week. However, with Seve, Flying Bear and Calypso Choir most likely to set the race up for a finisher, Outrage is taken to follow up with the hope that he will get the breaks dropped in from a wide draw.
1. Outrage
2. Flying Bear
3. Calypso Choir
