All of these step up in trip though FIRST WINTER was beaten only a neck over 1m2f at Lingfield on his debut when finishing well clear of the rest. Charlie Appleby’s charge gets the vote on that form and is preferred to the other Godolphin runner and newcomer Dubai Welcome. Zeeband is a half-brother to a Group 3 winner and is already gelded while On Guard has also been gelded since finishing second over a mile at Haydock without threatening the winner. Al Qaqaa was narrowly beaten over a mile at Chelmsford in November and can figure if lasting home but Master Rocco is easily dismissed in this company.

Eventful is the only filly in the race and the most exposed while the remaining trio have all been gelded since last in action and step up in trip. Fighting Don showed little progress last term and You Owe Me was well beaten over 1m2f before placing over a mile though his dam won over 1m4f. But JELLYSTONE can also point to winners over 1m4f in his dam’s pedigree and was steadily improving last term before floundering in heavy going. Ralph Beckett’s charge may be the one to side with on his reappearance and gets a tentative vote.

Nurse Florence is a full-sister to a winner over 6f on the all-weather and Swooper’s dam scored over the minimum trip on the Polytrack. Different Face is another related to a winner on the all-weather and could go well but YAZAMAN makes most appeal on breeding. The Haggas colt is fitted with headgear but the 185,000gns yearling is a half-brother to a winning two-year-old and his dam was speedy type that won twice over the minimum trip.

Lezardrieux recorded both wins last year over today’s trip at Newcastle while Craigburn scored over a longer distance at Thirsk in September. Pretty Lady started joint-favourite at Lingfield on her recent reappearance but never recovered from a bad stumble at the start and was tailed-off behind fourth-placed Comeatchoo. Sur Mer placed in all three outings at Southwell earlier in the year and makes her handicap debut along with ICE ICE LADY. The latter could only finish third under a penalty last time but had made a winning debut over the minimum trip at Lingfield only five days earlier and the runner-up has subsequently won.

GIGI’S BEACH (NAP) made a winning reappearance at Kempton last week and looks worth sticking with at this lowly level. Due to be raised by more than today’s 6lb penalty on the back of that convincing success, he can confirm running with third-placed Sparkling Diamond and Shymay. The latter is capable of better having been bumped at the start on that occasion while Bankawi won over 7f last term and Cappella Fella and Cesifire have placed over further. Deevious Beau looks to have the strongest form of those handicapping for the first time and steps up in trip for this.

MAN OF PROMISE lived up to his name when beaten less than a length by the smart Mums Tipple at Ascot on last summer’s debut. Absent from the track since, this extra distance will suit the Godolphin colt and he’s just preferred to Cold Front. The latter has returned a losing favourite in both starts now though was well clear of the rest when runner-up at Kempton last week. The remainder will do well to trouble the principals though Swan River and Thebian are likely improvers, Hawafez debuts for an in-form trainer and Faene Queene is a newcomer to note.

There’s little in the way of winning form though Siberian Night’s victory at Kempton in December looks superior to the victory of Forus over 7f at Chelmsford. Bolly Bullet posted a better effort at Dundalk back in January and has switched yards since but the less exposed MORROOJ is expected to improve now handicapping for the first time and gets the vote with Roger Varian’s yard among the winners in the last few days. Zim Baby should be sharper for last week’s outing on this track while Rocket Dancer drops in class on his first start for a new yard having been gelded since last in action.

A runner-up on the all-weather the last twice, Guvenor's Choice has yet to win on Turf despite numerous attempts and the latter comment also applies to Amaretto. But the veteran LUNAR DEITY can race off a lower mark on this surface despite winning twice here in the past and Stuart Williams’ charge gets the vote having gone close over track and trip on his last visit. Sharp Operator looks to be treading water off his current mark while the likes of Tattenhams and Approve The Dream are still looking for a first win.
