Thanielle is a half-sister to three winners and sets a decent standard on her third to Snow Shower at Salisbury in September, though gives the impression she’d appreciate a longer trip. Zezenia was second at Newcastle in the autumn, despite racing freely. She’ll know more today while William Haggas runs Lawahed and Raoufah. John Gosden also has a duo engaged and Frankie rides FINAL OFFER, who is a sister to two winners including Maggies Angel who won on debut back in 2017. The Dark Angel filly gets the nod though the Godolphin four-year-old Pure Beauty will be interesting when stepped up to a mile.

This is a typically-competitive HQ sprint but Open Wide goes well fresh and didn’t do much wrong throughout 2019. Total Commitment was in good form on Polytrack at the start of the year and is lightly raced on Turf. Northern raider Flavius Titus won twice over course and distance in the first half of last year and is another to consider, despite looking a few pounds too high. Gulliver pops up now and again and recent rain will aid his cause while Pass The Vino has dropped to a fair mark. SWINDLER (NAP) won first time up last summer and later completed an Ascot double. He’s only run six times so it’s reasonable to expect further progress this season from Ed Walker’s charge.

Brando won this in 2017 and 2018 but was only third behind shock scorer Keystroke 12 months ago, despite having hit the front inside the final furlong. The classy veteran reversed that form in the autumn and Stuart Williams’ fellow eight-year-old hasn’t had a prep run this year but this race could fall into the lap of the latter’s stable companion BREATHTAKING LOOK. The mare made giants strides last year and was a Group 3 winner over 7f in September. She goes well fresh and may outstay the speed merchants. Oxted won on his reappearance last year and landed the Portland at Doncaster in September but this is a big step up from handicaps. Mr Lupton is starting to look a busted flush but Kevin Ryan’s second string Emaraaty Ana is no mug having won the Gimcrack as a juvenile.

It hasn’t taken long for Sir Michael Stoute’s string to hit top gear and SANGARIUS was mightily impressive when winning the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot just under a year ago. Twice a winner over 7f as a two-year-old, he should cope with the drop back to a mile and is the one to beat if fully wound-up as he doesn’t carry a penalty. Mythical Magic was second in a couple of Group 2 races in Meydan at the start of the year so could be the one to profit if the selection doesn’t come up to scratch, though there are also possibilities about last year’s Darley Stakes third Prince Eiji. Lord Tennyson and Dawaam could be anything but this is a massive elevation in class for both. Escobar, Bless Him and the Johnston pair Marie's Diamond and Vale Of Kent are useful handicappers but also upped in grade.

Champion stayer Stradivarius hasn’t raced over a trip this short in more than three years when beaten in a handicap at Chester. Anthony Van Dyck failed to win in five starts after landing the Epsom Derby last year but always competed at the highest level and has Broome as a pacemaker in this. Last year’s winner DEFOE clearly needed the run at Meydan in March but still finished ahead of Desert Encounter and is closely matched with Ghaiyyath on a line through David Simcock’s globe-trotter. The latter probably failed to handle very soft ground in the Arc at Longchamp in October but bounced back in fine style in a Group 3 at Meydan in February. He probably has more to offer but the climb out of the dip here may test his stamina.

Dubai Instinct won twice over 1m2f last year but there is a slight doubt about his stamina over this extra quarter-mile whereas Look Closely appeared to relish the step up in trip at Leicester on his final start of 2019. Roger Varian’s Sea The Stars gelding can improve further this season but SEVERANCE looked one to follow after winning at Haydock last year. Things went slightly awry after but he wasn’t disgraced at Royal Ascot and is well treated on that performance. Durrell proved best on Turf last year and is not without a chance while Edinburgh Castle doesn’t have many miles on the clock.

Jane Marple is a sister to useful stayer Precious Ramotswe and a half-sister to several other winners. She will almost certainly know what’s required and should win plenty of races but RENAISSANCE QUEEN is a half-sister to Godolphin’s Group 1 and Group 2 winner Old Persian and equally promising. Delta’s Royalty landed the odds at Kempton in December but has to give 7lb to two potentially-smart fillies.

RICETTA is by Camelot and her dam has produced winners with all three of her offspring to so far race so John Gosden’s filly has the right background for a successful career. Zoohoor is a half-sister to four winners and may be a better bet than stablemate Thowq with Winter Halo also by prolific sire Dark Angel. Ligera is another with a nice pedigree but 7f may be on the sharp side for the Showcasing filly.

Deep Intrigue was engaged here yesterday so that run should be monitored. The handicapper has given a chance to Intisaab, who is having a first run since a wind operation, and also Gunmetal. Alaadel is starting to slip down the weights again and goes well fresh so goes on the shortlist while Silent Echo placed three times on Polytrack over the winter. Golden Apollo won the Ayr Silver Cup in September but useful juvenile DUNKERRON started last season on a 14lb higher mark and can end his losing run in this granted luck in-running.

Citron Major usually needs a run but won off similar marks on good to firm at York and Windsor last year. Beyond Equal looks too high in the weights on his return to action, however, while Highland Dress probably didn’t achieve much when successful on the Fibresand earlier this year. Danzan is having a first run for Tim Easterby but Spirit Of May could be interesting if continuing last year’s progress and Ice Lord has been a grand servant down the years. Wentworth Falls finished just ahead of EQUITATION in last year’s Portland at Doncaster but the latter was apprentice-ridden and given plenty to do. He could reverse the form with Harry Bentley taking over the reins.
